This semester proved to be that time of the year where things revamp and start

afresh, whether it is the taxation policies of the state, inception of Bluestockings

anew or the much awaited changes in the Moot Court Committee (MCC), USLLS.
Dr. Upma Gautam started off valiantly as the present Faculty Convenor with her
vision to take MCC, USLLS to new heights. The first tidal change, a brainchild of
Dr. Gautam, was to eliminate the usual course; pick-and-stick method for the
selection of teams for national and international moot court competitions and
introduce a well ordered mechanism for the same

Teams representing USLLS in various moot court competitions shall now be

selected on the basis of ranks bagged by them in The Grand Intra Moot Court
Competition held on the 3rd of September, 2017 an intra-USLLS Moot Court
Competition where all the students from III semester onwards were eligible to
participate so as to compete and represent this institution in national and
international moots with a set of ever so stringent guidelines to be followed
throughout the year relating to all the aspects related to selection, eligibility and
choice of the competitions. Lets take a glimpse; the team compositions are frozen
for the entire term! Yes, that is supposed to mean you cannot change ships, nor the
sea. Missed the intra-moot? No moot court participation for you the entire year.
Now you know it wasnt a regular play.

The event saw 36 teams from different batches of USLLS competing against each
other, one should have seen the law library all stocked up like never before, an
absolute first followed by many more. The list hereto witnessed a major first which
sure cannot be ignored; the Moot Court Committee, Student Representatives
election.

When we read Law students and election in a single sentence it sure is a massive
state of affairs. This one was no different with everything integrated. Form politics
to causes, promises to cooperation, connections getting sour to bitter, this Intra-
moot and the elections were no less than an earthquake followed by a tsunami.
After a huge hue and cry, commencement and online casting of votes by the top 20
teams (yes, your vote isnt required if you arent among the qualified) the
elections for the student representatives concluded (read, for good). Harmeet
Singh, VII semester was elected as the Student Convenor for the MCC, USLLS,
Rejoy Basu (VII semester) as the Co-Convenor, Tejasvita Dhawan; IV Year
Executive, Nitish Rai Parwani; III Year Executive and Megha Mukherjee as the II
year Executive were democratically elected by the majority as the
members/student representatives of the Moot Court Committee, University School
of Law and legal Studies.

The clear aim behind organizing this event was to intensify and amplify the moot
court culture in our college and so it did, at least as of yet. The talk of the town for
all fair reasons had been the Grand Intra Moot and the MCC Elections, a popular
opinion goes as A great effort at organizing the fiasco a number of loop holes it
may have but its a step forward. We can only hope for the best. Another student
from the fifth semester, wishing not to be named was noted as saying This whole
carnival of events, one after the other is indeed intended towards progress but
progress cant be achieved with arbitrary procedures.

Like any other procedural change with a fundamental value the people associated
with it react in one way or the other. Some take things in their stride and the others,
well, we all require critiques. USLLS saw its share of fresh change yet a lot more
awaited. The immediate next in line is The Grand 1st Years Intra-Moot Court
Competition, a similar procedural stimulation for the students of first year in the
form of a PSDA activity slated for the 2nd and 3rd of November, 2017.

May the odds be even in your favour, noobies!
