Becoming Poe, Project

Fall Semester: October

After watching Poes biography you should now know plenty about his life to get

an idea of what he went through. For this project you will need to select one event or fact

you have learned from his life that interests you most. You will then take on the persona

of Poe during that point in his life, while you complete the assignment. This is a creative

project that will encourage you to attempt to look into the mind of a troubled poetic

genius. For this assignment you must depict Poe at a specific time in his life that you

choose. You should interpret him in whatever creative way that you deem fit. Below are a

few ways that you may show your interpretation of Poe.

Draw/Paint/ Sculpt/ Sketch: You may artistically depict Poe in any manner that fits with

the assignment. Draw a self portrait, paint a personal picture, or sketch out an idea for a

new story.

Journal/Write/Blog: You could create a journal or blog from Poes perspective to

convey his feelings/thoughts. You may also write a new poem or short story as, Poe, it

should reflect whatever is happening in his life at the time.

Recording/Tape/Photograph: You may record an audio or video tape of an interview.

You should play Poe in the recording. Answer the questions however you believe he

would have.

I have provided you with ideas but you may come up with your own way of, Becoming

Poe.

Whatever you choose to create, you should include a half to one page description of what

you have created, why you chose to do so, and how it relates to Poes life.

Each portion of this assignment should be creative, neat, organized, and clearly
understood. The relationship between the students creation and Poe should be obvious
and easily understood.
