SUBJECT: Our Family Services Analysis
DATE: September 4, 2017

Per your request, this report delivers important information regarding nonprofit
organizations such as Our Family Services. This document will first outline nonprofit
organizations as a whole and then narrow in on OFS specifically. Throughout the article,
I have highlighted the industry overview, services offered, target market, and
competitors that all pertain directly to OFS and the future of the organization.

Industry Overview
A nonprofit can be a nationwide or local organization, which strives to make a difference
in the community. Nonprofits are groups that are tax exempt under the Internal
Revenue Code Section because they provide public benefit. In 2016 there were 91,976
non-profit establishments nationwide. This equated in $32 million in revenue (Diment,
2016). These organizations serve a variety of different purposes throughout the United
States ranging from the largest being human services at 35% of total nonprofits. Other
prevalent sections are education at 17.1%, health at 13.0%, and societal benefit at
11.6% (National Council of Nonprofits, 2016). Specifically in this report, Our Family
Services is classified as being apart of the health services industry. OFS has a mission to
eliminate homelessness and strengthen the community. There are 70 employees and a
highly active group of volunteers as well.

Services Offered
Our Family Services provides shelter and support to homeless children, youth, and
families. OFS is able to accomplish this in a variety of ways that extends both financial
and emotional support. The stability provided links those in need with the proper
support to get the homeless back on their feet. A few of the prevalent services offered
are affordable apartments, homeless youth services, and street outreach. Affordable
apartments are for low-income families and individuals who qualify. The homeless
youth services help the homeless, ages 18-24 stay in school and career plan. Lastly, the
street outreach will actually go and help the runaway and homeless get off of the
streets to a safe place. (Our Family Services, 2017).

Target Market
In regards to the financial target market, Our Family Services looks to build a stronger
relationship with young professionals. According to the Project Scope provided by
Professor Pintor, OFS hopes to open this new chapter aimed at young professionals for
the organization through a unique outlook on fundraising events (Pintor, 2017). To
optimize fundraising events, OFS seeks to reach young professionals in new ways such
as online giving while also still keeping in mind the traditional fundraising methods.
According to the Charity Navigator, Online giving increased 13% from the prior year
and website traffic for nonprofit websites rose 11% from the year prior (Online Giving
Statistics, 2016). These statistics support the necessity for nonprofits to stay active, as
they are vital in the services they provide.

On the other hand, in terms of the actual market OFS serves, they aim to help homeless
children and families. The highest correlation prevalent for looking into the demand for
OFS is the poverty and unemployment rate. When the unemployment rate rises,
individuals struggle with less income and fall into poverty. In return, individuals
struggling with unemployment demand the services that OFS provides. This makes the
target market volatile to how the economy is doing and who the economy is benefiting
at a specific time.

Competitors
Our Family Services is a merged agency from a few once-independent organizations.
Prior to this merge, these organizations were essentially competitors as they offered the
similar services in some form. The organizations were OUR TOWN and Family
Counseling Agency, Information & Referral Services, and New Beginnings for Women &
Children. Aside from other health services competitors, OFS also competes with
nonprofit human and societal service centers. Locally in Tucson there is the Colibri
Center which is a family advocacy nonprofit that works with humanitarians to end
migrant death and suffering on the US-Mexico border. This could be classified as a
societal service that some donors would see as the same purpose as OFS.

Conclusion
This report provided you with a clear overview of the nonprofit industry as a whole as a
well as specifics on Our Family Services. OFS has incredible opportunities in the future
and I hope this assisted you in understanding the various services offered, target
markets, and competitors OFS deals with on a day-to-day basis. If you have any further
