(Personal details supplied here)
EXPERIENCE
Oct 2013 - Present Postdoctoral Researcher, Physics Department, Durham University
My research will seek to develop sophisticated data-compression techniques to allow the theoretical simulation of
large systems, allowing the analysis of their large-scale behaviours. I do this because there are several phenomena,
e.g. weather, traffic flow, or electronic motion, for which we understand the basic rules, but struggle to predict the
large-scale behaviour arising as a consequence of these rules. The algorithms I use are based on techniques
developed during my doctorate, on many-atom quantum systems. These atoms can be used to mimic other
important many-particle systems that cannot be controlled so precisely, providing insight into e.g. the
mechanisms behind high-temperature superconductivity in solids. We can also use them to implement quantum
information processing.
