The above Table shows the power flows measured at both ends of each of the
seven lines of a five bus system. Generators are connected to bus nos. 1 and 2.
At other buses loads are connected. Calculate (a) the power injections at each
bus (b) total transmission loss and (c) efficiency of the transmission system.

Problem No. 2

Draw an impedance diagram for the system shown in Fig.1 showing all the
impedances in per unit. Choose a base power of 100 MVA for the whole system
and a base voltage of 132 kV in the transmission line circuit.

G1 : 50 MVA, 13.8 kV, X = 0.15 p.u.

G2 : 20 MVA, 13.8 kV, X = 0.15 p.u.
T1 : 80 MVA, Y-Y, 12.2kV/161 kV, X = 0.1 p.u.
T2 : 80 MVA, Y-Y, 13.8kV/161 kV, X = 0.1 p.u.

Load: 50 MVA, power factor: 0.8 (lag), 154 kV

Problem No. 3

A 100 MVA, 13.8 kV, Y connected, 3 phase, 50 Hz, synchronous generator is

operating at the rated voltage and no load when a three phase fault occurs at
its terminals. Its per unit reactances to its own base are as follows.

Xs = 1.0 p.u. X= 0.25 p.u. X= 0.12 p.u.

and the time constants are : T = 1.1 s T = 0.04s

Assuming an initial d.c. component of 50% of initial d.c. component

calculate the following.

(a) The a.c. component of current through the generator just after
occurrence of the fault.
(b) Total r.m.s current including the d.c. component at the beginning of
the fault.
(c) The a.c. component of the current after (i) 2 cycles and (ii) 5 s.

A system consists of two plants connected by a transmission line and a load that
is located at plant 2. Data for the loss equation consists of information that 100
MW transmitted from plant 1 to the load results in a loss of 10 MW. Find the
required generation for each plant and power received by the load when for
the system is Rs. 150 per MWhr. Assume that the incremental fuel costs can be
approximated by the following equations:

1
= 0.18 1 + 102 Rs. /MWhr

2
= 0.36 2 + 114 Rs. /MWhr
