For the week of October 29-November 4, 2017
Sermon quick review
As you recall this weeks sermon entitled The Waiting Room was there any
particular point that stood out or confused or challenged you?
Or
Briefly share a spiritual LESSON that you learned from the sermon, an application
from your personal devotions or a PRAISE report from the past week.
Connecting
Have you ever been to a prison? What are you impressions of a person who is
imprisoned in our country?
Group discussion
Read Philippians 1:12-26.
1. What stands out to you as you read this section (1:12-26)? What do you think is
the mood of Pauls writing? Do you see a theme in this section?
2. For most people, their goal is to avoid suffering. How different is Pauls view?
Do you somehow want the gospel to work through comfort and easy
lifestyle?
Are you more committed to comfort than you are committed to the
gospels advancement?
3. Share. Have you ever had a waiting room experience? Can you relate to the
experience of Pauls chains while in prison?
4. What other adverse circumstance does Paul report in verse 15-18? How did Paul
respond to this?
5. Discuss. A helpful study for those who want to live life as Paul did in worship of
Jesus is to look at all the motivation statements that he writes. Look at 1:12-26
and write down all that motivates Paul. Do those motivate you? Which one is
easy for you? Which one is difficult?
6. Discuss. Why do you think are some Christians afraid of death? What does Pauls
attitude/perspective about life and death teach and encourage you?
Closing the session.

Close the session by taking the time to pray for one another. Consider the following
as you pray:
Pray that God teach you to see your waiting room experience (whether you are in
one today or in the future) with the right perspective.
Pray that God will enable you to make choices that will please him and have
eternal value.
Pray for loved ones and friends who are in experiencing a waiting room situation
today. If saved, pray for Gods comfort, wisdom and sustenance for them. For the
unsaved, pray that the situation will bring them to a saving knowledge of Jesus
and for an opportunity to minister to them with the gospel.
Personal reflection & next steps.
Personal Reflection. One of the outcomes of being in the waiting room is that it
builds intimacy and dependency on God. God has the answer to every situation;
however, there is no other way to know the answer than spending time with him.
Take a moment to reflect and consider what kind of relationship you currently have
and would like with God.
Personal Action. Examine verses 18, 25 and 26. What causes Paul to rejoice? Do you
have this attitude in your life today? Everyday this week, intentionally praise God for
the things that causes you to rejoice in him.
