apoyo necesario llegaremos a recuperarnos.

W
e are concluding one of the toughest years that the cacao sector
and the country have ever confronted, regarding production,
based on internal and external factors. In the particular case of
the Ecuadorian cacao sector, climate affectations generated a decrease
in production, to which we must add the effects of the earthquake
that hit the country on April 16th, while it did not have a direct impact
Cacao en Boga El productor El caca
on production, because part of the infrastructure of producers and el mun
exporters was affected and they had no other choice than to redirect their
investments to maintain stability.
However, we have overcome this stage and we aspire that in 2017 we will
not only recover cacao production, but that we surpass the production
from 2015 thanks to the incorporation of new areas for cultivation.
It is gratifying that this increment occurs alongside the signing of the trade
agreement with the European Union, with which we see a great possibility of ensuring the market for
our producers and exporters. Additionally, the receptiveness that the Asian market has demonstrated
and the potential it holds, overall in semi finished and finished products such as chocolate, are filling
us with optimism since the new cacao production will have a market to which to export its product.
The only way for this to happen is if all the parts in the productive chain maintain a high quality production
and keeps offering the best cacao to the world. More and better markets can be accomplished this way
for the benefit of the sector and the country.
We welcome the governments interaction, especially from the Ministry of Agriculture in joint efforts
with the National Institute of Agricultural Investigations (INIAP), that in October liberated the new
clone of national cacao with high productivity, which gives hope to producers that from now to four or
five years, can have a fine aroma cacao with production levels similar to CCN-51.
It is important that the support of government entities increases through soft credit lines and tax
exemptions, since the production sector needs to recover not only from this years low productivity
but also from the effect that the decrease of the international price of cacao had, whose stock market
value is today in 25% less than last years average.
ANECACAOs compromise is to watch over the sectors growth and to support the entire production
chain. We see 2017 under a light of optimism and we are sure that with daily work and the necessary
support we will recover.
