WATER PROBLEM IN MAURITIUS

Mauritius is a water-stressed island. The island is moving further into the water-scarce zone with
continued population growth, where water availability will be a limiting factor to our socio-
economic development.

Increasing water demand due to demographic changes is putting stress on existing water
resources and we have not kept pace with the changes in distribution patterns. Demand for water
is increasing by 2.5 percent a year and supply cannot keep pace.

Water is lost mainly in bathing, toilet flushing, clothes washing, vehicle and floor/pavement washing,
garden irrigation. In Mauritius, the average domestic water consumption ranges between 180 to
220 liters per people.

In the past, Mauritius has faced lots of problems concerning water. During the months of October,
November and December we often have to face water shortage problems.

PURPOSE OF PROJECTS

To reduce the amount of water we use for showering.

Having a good provision of water for the future.

Reducing water shortage in some part of the island.

This will also help in reducing the problem of water

scarcity in Mauritius.
ADVANTAGES

Adjusting the temperature of water, which may be useful in the

morning during rush hours.

The amount of water used per month will be reduce and also their
water bills.

It has a friendly interface; it is easy to used

HOW DOES IT WORK

It is consisted of two process

1. TEMPERATURE CALLIBRATION
RECORD WATER
OPEN WATER MIXING
FLOWING THROUGH
VALVE FLOW METER IN TANK
2. THREE STEPS BATHING

1 RINSE
2 SOAPING
3 WASH
SAFETY MEASURE

A buzzer will be connected to the circuit and program activate in case of

a short circuit in the apparatus.

Manual mode in case of any problem.

System will use lowest voltage possible to reduce electric shock. (only 9v
is required to run the aparatus)
