1. Introduction
The authors has reported the results of tank tests on the modified AUw-type propeller models with
the expanded area ratio of O. 55 and O. 70. With increasing the power of the modern huge ships, it
becomes necessary for us to develop the design diagrams of six-bladed propellers with larger blade
area. So, the authors intend to conduct a further systematic testing work with the same type of
In this paper, the authors present the results of the open water tests and the Bp- type and ti
andy type design diagrams for the propellers, which is called as MAUw6-85.
Model propellers used are made of zinc and lead alloy and they have the diameter of 0.25m. Thei
rincipal particulars are given in Table 1. General plan of the propeller models is shown in Fig. 1
Open water tests were carried out in the No. 2 Experiment Tank according to the ordinary practic
the S. R. C. To obtain the net thrust, the correction for the resistance of the screw hub was mad
t various speed of advance for the measured thrust.
The Reynolds number R, of the tests is shown in Table 1.
The results of tests are shown in Fig. 2 in the form of J-KT, KQ, o diagram. Values of KT
Fig. 3 shows the .B- design diagram for MAU,6-85 series. In this diagram, the metric unit
are used, and the density of sea water is assumed as 104. 51 kg sec2/m4.
The handy type design diagrams are prepared for easy calculation of principal dimensions and
efficiency of the propeller, and they are shown as Fig. 4 (A) and 4 (B) . From these figures, we can
easily obtain the diameter, pitch ratio and propeller efficiency by using a given delivered horse power,
and revolutions and advance speed of the propeller.

carried out the experiments and the performance calculations.
