Unit Title: Geometric Theorems Name: Cyrus Cama

Content Area: Geometry Grade Level: 9 -12
CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s):
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSA.G-CO.9

1.) Prove theorems about lines and angles. Theorems include: vertical angles are congruent; when a transversal crosses parallel lines, alternate
interior angles are congruent and corresponding angles are congruent; points on a perpendicular bisector of a line segment are exactly
those equidistant from the segments endpoints.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSA.G-CO.10

2.) Prove theorems about triangles. Theorems include: measures of interior angles of a triangle sum to 180; base angles of isosceles triangles
are congruent; the segment joining midpoints of two sides of a triangle is parallel to the third side and half the length; the medians of a
triangle meet at a point.

Big Ideas/Unit Goals:

The main goal of this unit is not just for students to simply recognize and utilize various principles of geometry in the real world, but to also develop
their analytical and logical reasoning skills by learning how to construct and create proofs for common geometric theorems. Students will be able to
determine the congruence of various angles and two-dimensional shapes by applying geometric theorems and using logical reasoning. Such skills
will also be able to aid students in other subjects and disciplines.

Unit Summary:

Geometry is everywhere in our world, but do we see it? Can the skills that we learn in geometry be recognized and applied in the real world? This
unit, Geometry Theorems in our World, will help students to determine their own answers to this and other questions related to geometry.

This unit is an introduction to the world of geometric theorems, postulates and properties as well as their application in everyday life. Specifically,
students will learn how to determine the congruence of various angles, line segments, triangles and quadrilaterals by developing their analytical
skills and using logic to write geometric proofs. They will also learn how to recognize and apply these concepts to the real world. Methods of
instruction will include lectures, a webcersize/iPad lesson, the use of graphic organizes and other teaching mediums to aid students in their mastery
of the material. In addition, several assessments that test the students fundamental knowledge of unit concepts will be given.
