Following the intense battles of WWII, the Cold War era is an important part of history that shaped the world into the modern era. Many of the foreign policies
enacted by the United States had profound impact in countries around the world sometimes leading to disastrous results. In this unit, you will evaluate the
effectiveness of post-WWII monetary organizations and military alliances (e.g., International Monetary Fund, World Bank, GATT, United Nations, NATO and
SEATO). Moreover, you will learn about the Second Red Scare, domestic communism and the witch-hunting era in American history, known as McCarthyism. You
will also examine several significant Cold War events (e.g., Berlin Blockade, Korean War, Vietnam War, Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis). As you develop
this understanding, we will end the unit by comparing Cold War-era U.S. foreign policy to modern American relations with the Middle East and Mexico.
