IGBT Gate Drivers from ABB Industrie were
developed espe y duty traction
lly for he:
nd comply with the latest railway
equipment standards, They are designed to
work with all commercially available IGBTs
rated to 3300 V and 1200 Apc. The electrically
isolated auxiliary power is generated with an
integrated HF transformer that takes its power
from a central si
juare
vave supply unit. Com
‘mand and status feedback signals are transmit-
ted over optical fibers. All protection functions
for the IGBT and the static converter are inte-
grated in the Gate Driver and have been tested
for all significant worst-case conditions.
A logic circuit monitors the incoming sigeals to
ensure that the pulse length at the output is not
shorter than allowed, The same logic circuit also
monitors the internal power supply and the sta-
tus of the output stage. In the event of a fault
the Gate Driv
tums the IGBT off and send:
fault signal
1 the fiber optic link,
Also monitored is the collector-emitter voltage.
Should the collector-emitter saturation voltage
of the IGBT exceed a given value in the on-
state, ‘soft’ turn-off of the IGBT will occur. This
special feature also allows a DC link short-circuit
to be cleared without damage. In such a case
fault signal is also sent via the fiber optic link:
