HISTORIA DE HALLOWEEN

La palabra Halloween es una contraccin de la expresin inglesa All Hallows Eve. Literalmente, significa Vspera de Todos los
Santos. Aparentemente, pues, esta celebracin macabra y humorstica anglosajona estara vinculada a una fiesta solemne y
considerada como de estricta observancia por la Iglesia Catlica: el Primero de Noviembre, festividad de Todos los Santos. Pero esto
no es del todo cierto.

Cules son los orgenes de Halloween? El verdadero origen de esta fiesta anglosajona es milenario y de variada procedencia.
Halloween tiene una raiz cltica y otra romana. Los romanos dedicaban la fiesta denominada Feralia al descanso y la paz de los
muertos, haciendo sacrificios y elevando diversas plegarias a sus dioses paganos. Tambin los romanos dedicaban una festividad
a Pomona, la diosa de las cosechas y los frutos, cuyo smbolo es una manzana -obsrvese que uno de los juegos tradicionales del
Halloween es el juego de morder la manzana (bobbing for apples)-. Pero con anterioridad, ya los pueblos celtas de Irlanda, Gales, Escocia
y norte de Francia, celebraban la festividad llamada Samhain. Samhain o La Samon era un festival que ocurra entre finales de octubre
y principios de noviembre, un rito en que se celebraba el final de la temporada de las cosechas y el comienzo del invierno. Los druidas,
autnticos sacerdotes o chamanes clticos, crean que en una determinada noche, la del 31 de octubre, las brujas gozaban de mayor
vitalidad, a los propios druidas se les conceda el don de adivinar el futuro, los lmites entre el mundo de los vivos y el mundo de los
muertos desaparecan completamente, e incluso, que los fantasmas de los muertos venan del otro mundo a llevarse consigo a los
vivos. Por eso, en la noche de Samhain los druidas preparaban enormes fogatas y hacan conjuros, intentando ahuyentar a los malos
espritus, y la gente dejaba dulces o comida a la puerta de sus casas, en la supersticin de que los difuntos, a quienes las leyendas les
atribuan la autora de las ms crueles atrocidades, se iran contentos y les dejaran en paz. En aquellas gentes, para las que cualquier
hecho de la naturaleza era poco menos que proftico, la noche de Samhain abra el largo y crudo invierno por el que vagaban perdidos
los fantasmas de los muertos del ltimo ao en busca de cuerpos que poseer para transitar al otro mundo, hasta la llegada de la
primavera cuando los das son ms largos y las tinieblas menguan.

Cmo se celebra Halloween en Estados Unidos: Trick or Treat!

Cada 31 de octubre se celebra Halloween o Noche de Brujas. Si bien esta celebracin se realiza en varios rincones del mundo, es cierto que en
Estados Unidos y en Canad cobra especial importancia.

Calabazas labradas, disfraces de terror, bromas inocentes y pesadas, historias de brujas y fantasmas se dan cita en este da tan especial.

Para meternos un poco ms en clima, vamos a ver cules son las tradiciones y costumbres asociadas al festejo de Halloween en Estados Unidos.

Costumbres de Halloween en Estados Unidos

Actualmente, el festejo de Halloween implica un montn de actividades ldicas, pero se mantiene intacto el sentido de unidad entre el mundo de los
vivos y los muertos. El espritu de Halloween se apodera de todos por igual, aunque el festejo es especialmente popular entre los nios, quienes
suelen usar disfraces de terror de todo tipo para el tradicional truco o trato de Halloween.

Pero entre los adultos tambin es muy popular: se hacen fiestas de disfraces de Halloween y se participa en celebraciones de todo tipo. Es muy
comn la decoracin de casas para Halloween, en las que se pone en juego toda la imaginacin para decorar jardines, puertas y ventanas con
guirnaldas, velas, calabazas de Halloween y otras imgenes tpicas, como murcilagos, brujas, fantasmas.

Asimismo, los hoteles de distintos destinos tursticos de los Estados Unidosofrecen fiestas y eventos temticos que son disfrutados por los turistas
de todos los rincones

Halloween o Crioween?, as se celebra en Per

Cada 31 de octubre, nios, jvenes y adultos festejan Halloween con los disfraces y maquillajes ms espeluznantes. Esta tradicional fiesta es una

celebracin que proviene de Irlanda. La civilizacin Celta organizaba en esta fecha una festividad en honor al tiempo de cosecha, llamada Samhain.

La costumbre se fue trasladando con el tiempo por diversos lugares. En 1840 llega a Estados Unidos y ah surge la denominacin Halloween, de la
unin de las palabras en ingls All Hallows Eve, que significa vspera de la Fiesta de todos los Santos.

De esta manera, a finales de los aos setenta, Per recibi la influencia de esta festividad y desde entonces, los principales centros comerciales
organizan divertidas fiestas, decorados de naranja y negro. Adems de los tradicionales recorridos por la ciudad que realizan los nios con sus
coloridos disfraces y el grito de dulce o travesura.

Esta celebracin coincide con el da de la msica criolla, que fue establecida el 18 de octubre de 1944 por el presidente Manuel Prado Ugarteche,
quien mediante una resolucin suprema declar el 31 de octubre de cada ao como el Da de la Cancin Criolla.

Esto gener desacuerdos entre quienes festejaban una u otra celebracin pero la creatividad peruana lleg a su mxima potencia cuando se
decidi fusionar ambas fiestas, creando el Crioween.
Cmo celebran Halloween los colombianos?

La celebracin del Da de los Nios o la fecha de Halloween, ha tomado auge en Colombia en los ltimos aos, especialmente en los

adultos. Este ao por elecciones, las fiestas de disfraces para los adultos qued para el 28 de noviembre.

La encuesta realizada por Fenalco revela que el 73% de los colombianos participa en las actividades de Halloween. El 48,4% se
disfraza y el 51,6% no lo hace. El 39,3% disfraza a sus hijos mientras que el 60,7% no lo hace. El 16,3% disfraza a su mascota, el
83,7% no lo hace.

En cuanto a lugar en donde prefiere celebrar, el 27,2% lo celebra en su conjunto residencial pidiendo dulces, el 22,5% en una
discoteca o bar, el 20,5% en una fiesta casera, el 18,5% en un centro comercial, el 2,7% en un restaurantes, y otros un 8,6%.

Con quienes lo celebrar, el 30,9% con su familia, el 29,8% con sus amigos, el 20,2% con su pareja el 10,1%, y un 10,1%, con sus

Humanidades de la Universidad Diego Portales (UDP). Previo a esto slo se celebraba el Da de Todos los Santos (1 de noviembre), dada la fuerte

e histrica influencia de la Iglesia Catlica en nuestro pas. Ese da miles de personas, an hasta el da de hoy, concurren al cementerio a recordar a

los difuntos de sus familias.

Y es que la celebracin que hoy hace que nuestros nios salgan a pedir caramelos se relaciona ntimamente con el Da de los
muertos, fiesta importantsima para los catlicos de Argentina y el resto de practicantes de esta religin en todo el mundo.

Halloween es un nombre que nace de la contraccin de all hallowseve (algo as como vspera de todos los santos) y que hoy se
ha transformado en una fiesta moderna resultado del sincretismo originado por la cristianizacin de las fiestas del fin del verano, de
origen celta y de la explotacin de parte del cine estadounidense, claro.

Fiestas

Cuando los romanos conquistaron a los celtas, impusieron sus propias fiestas, como la Feralia, que conmemoraba a los muertos, y la
Pomona, de la diosa de la cosecha. La enciclopedia britnica agrega que, en el siglo 7, el papa Bonifacio IV estableci el Da de
Todos los Santos para el 13 de mayo.
