1.1 Travel within a large group, without bumping into others or falling, while using locomotor
skills.
1.6 Balance on one, two, three, four, and five body parts.
2.3 Explain the importance of a wide rather than a narrow base of support in balance activities.

Prior Learning.
The students have already learned the five yoga poses (Warrior, Tree, Chair, Downward Dog,
Boat) that we will use for todays game. They have also learned which part of the body each
position affects, and have reviewed narrow and wide balance bases. They also have learned
strategies that help with balance.

II. Unit of Study.

The unit of study is flexibility with cardio.

III. Academic Learning Outcomes.

The Student Will: Understand how yoga helps promote balance and stretching.
TSW: Know the importance of both cardio and strength training.
TSW: Use locomotive skills to dance around each other without running into each other.

IV. Implementation.
A. Introduction to the lesson (Isabelle)
Today we are going to dance, stretch, and practice our balance! We will be playing a dance
game using the different yoga poses that we learned last class.

B. Sequence of Activities
1. Warm-up (Victor)
a. Jogging in place, jumping jacks, toe-touch stretch, hamstring pull (for balance and
stretch), knee to chest, arm circles, cross-chest arm stretches.
2. Review (Alexis)
a. Call out each yoga pose and have students demonstrate them (photos of yoga
poses will be displayed for reference).
b. Ask where students feel each pose and review what muscles are there.
c. Review what balance, narrow-stance vs wide-stance, and yoga mean.
3. Introduction to game (Delainey)
a. Ask if they have ever played musical chairs or a freeze dance game.
b. Explain that when the music is playing they will be dancing and going around.
c. When the music stops, they will do the yoga pose that we call out.
d. Explain that the music will get faster so they have to have active listening.
4. Playing game (DJ & Isabelle)
a. We will go through as many songs as possible in the time (appx. 10-15 minutes of
play-time).
C. Closure/Assessment (Krystina)
We will review what it is like to go from something that does not involve a lot of balance to
something that requires an immense amount of concentration and balance. We will also ask the
students what they discovered is helpful when balancing and if it is harder to balance on one,
two, or four body parts.
