Take the Catia part (start_parting_3_3.CATPart) or one of the neutral PullingDirection
formatmodels.UseCoreandCavityDesignworkingviewwhencreat SliderLifterDirecti
ingthepartingelementsinCatia.Scalethepartsothatfinishedproduct on
hascorrectdimensionsaftermoldprocess. Scale
1. ChancepartnametoMoldedPart.Thisisnecessaryifyoulater
createmoldpacketsfromthispart(notdoneinthisexercise).

2. Scale the part. The scale factor depends on the plastic or metal If there are problems in
alloy in use. Decide which material to use and find a suitable usingthesetools,openCatia
value. help and try to find the
solutionthere.
3. Define the main pulling direction with the Pulling Direction
tool. The compass moves automatically onto the parts axis sys
tem. Pick the part from your working view. After this Catia
executes the draft analysis automatically. You can chance the
valueofthedraftangleandthepullingdirectionfromthedialog
box.Differentelementsarevisualizedwithdifferentcolors.Core
is visualized with red color and Cavity with green. If there are
areasthatcantbeassociatedtoeitherCoreorCavitythoseareas
areshowneitherpink(nodraft)orblue(other)color.Ifthepart
requires moving cores, there will be both light blue and pink
surfacesleftafterselectingthemainpullingdirection.Makesure
thatthesesurfacesareonlyinmovingcoreareas.Ifthereareno
problems in your draft analysis click OK. Three new elements
appearautomaticallyintoyourspecificationtree.AxisSystemwhichdefinesthemainpullingdi
rectionandtwogeometricalset(oneforcoreandoneforcavity).
4. DefinesliderpullingdirectionwiththeSliderLifterDirectiontool.Movethecompassmanu
allyontotheslider(movingcore)surfaces.Reversedirectionifnecessary.Atleastsomeofthe
slider surfaces should turn yellow. If this does not happen, try positioning the compass again.
When succeeded,select all slidersurfaces by clicking them withyourleft mouse button. In the
endyoushouldhavesurfaceswiththreedifferentcolors:Yellow.greenandred.(Seeimagenext
page.)

5. Insert a new geometrical set into your specification tree (Click: Insertgeometrical set) and
changesetsnametoPartingBody.Thisisimportantbecauseelementsshouldbenamedcorrectly
whenyoustartmoldcreation.
6. CreatethepartinglineunderthePartingBodygeometricalset.
7. CreateaPartingsurface.Chooseaplane,whichpiercesthepartinglineanddrawanewsketchto
outlinethepartingsurface(Squareshapedworkswell).Surfacehastobebiggerthanthemold
platesinthefurtherselectedmouldset(orinsertplate),buttherearenolimitshowmuchbigger.
Drawtheoutlinessothatthesurfacewillbebigenough.FillthesketchwithFilltool.Cutthecre
ated surface with a Split tool. (Use PartingLine, cavity and core surfaces and manually created
linesasCuttingelements.).Intheendyoushouldhaveaplanarsurfacewithahole(sameshape
thanthepartonthisplane)inthemiddle.
8. Ifthereareholesinthemiddleofcoreandcavitysurfaces,fillthemwithaFilltool.Selecthole
edgeswithaBoundarytool,iftheshapeiscomplicated.
9. PreparecoreandcavitysurfacesunderthePartingBodyGeometricalSet.Thetargetistoha
veuniformsurfacesonbothsidesofthepart.
OpentheJointoolandselectthefollowingelementsforthefixed(cavity)sidesurface:
Partingsurface(theone,whichwasnamedasPartingSurface)
ScaledsurfaceundertheCavityGeometricalSet
Allfillsurfaces
Thoseslidersurfaces,whichextendoutsidethepartandbelongtothecavityside

10. The slider surfaces will stay hidden inside the parting surfaces (core and cavity). The moving
corewillbeshapedlaterwiththesesurfaces.
