Executive Director Summary
Another winter is upon us!! Thank you to Dr. Matt Bojrab for
his outstanding year of leadership, as he steered us steadily towards
the future. Thank you to Dr. Tim Dudley, whose term on the
Board expires this year. The Chairs and Co-Chairs of our IDDS
committees have been working very hard to make progress, so thank
you to Drs. Kara Czarkowski, John Jansen, Katy Patton, Stacey
Rochman and Jenna Voegele. The IDDS Foundation has had
another successful year under the leadership of Dr. Dave Wolf. Also,
thank you to IUSD Dean Dr. John Williams, who always finds time
in his schedule to include IDDS. I would like to thank our Admin
Assistant, Paige Becker, for excellent teamwork as we implemented the
various programs this year. And, in grateful appreciation of YOU, the

Over 8,000 Marion County 8th

graders considered futures in dentistry at the
September 26-27, 2017 Junior Achievement
JobSpark at the Indiana Fairgrounds. At the
event, middle schoolers were able to polish
teeth, give injections and brush teeth at the
Dr. Diane Buyer Lavonne Washington, DDS Smilemobile.
Dental Director of the Marion County
Public Health, Dr. Tonya Stewart, brought 10 dentists, hygienists
and assistants to interact with the students. The 8th graders learned
that studying dentistry, dental hygiene or dental assisting begins in
middle school. For those interested in life sciences, valuable high
school subjects should include courses in science.
The 8th graders were also exposed
to the IDA project Drinks Destroy Teeth
through the egg experiment, posters and
demonstrations of the Drinksdestroyteeth
App on tablets and televisions. Hands on
activities in the life sciences were used
to engage and inspire youth to consider

Dr. Miles Standish was well known for his outstanding contributions to Dentistry, Dental
Education, and Forensic Odontology. Dr. Standishs life exemplified the ideals of the IDDS
