Character is one of the intrinsic aspects of the novel. The term character
refers to people or actor in the story and characterization is the drawing of clear
illustration about someone that represented in the story. Based on Camden, the
anagram is dissolution of a (persons) name into its letters, as its elements; and a
new connection into words is formed by their transposition, if possible without
addition, subtraction, or change of the letters: and the words must make a sentence
applicable to the person named. The anagrams is complimentary or satirical; it
may contain some allusion to an event, or describe some personal characteristic.
Considering Camden statement, the researcher conducted to find is there any
relations between the anagrams of the characters names and the character or the
characterization and it is the reason of the researcher to find the correlation
between the anagram of main character name in the novel Harry Potter and the
Chamber of Secrets with its characterization.
This research was done by descriptive qualitative method, the writer uses
descriptive qualitative method because in this analysis the researcher correlate the
data, it is taken from the novel of Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secret by read
and analyzed at the novel especially concentrated on the main character and its
characterization. The researcher gave the limitation to the research only analyzed
on the main character in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret. The data of this
study can be classified into two important sources: the main data and secondary
data. The main source collected from the novel and the secondary data source
collected data of the main characters anagram from Harry potters fans made
sites. The researcher analyzed the data in the three step analysis. First, the
researcher analyzed the collected anagram using Galen theory to test the validity
of the anagrams. Second, the researcher analyzed the novel, Harry Potter and the
Chamber of Secrets to fin the characterization of the main character. The last step,
the researcher confronted anagram derived from the name of the main character
compared to the characterization of the figures that will be found the solution of
the statement of the problems.
Based on the finding and discussion of the data, it is concluded that there
are some connection between the name of the main character after converting into
anagrams with its characterization are described in the novel, in this case is the
main character of the novel Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets. The
second, the researcher also found that some anagram may reveal personal
characteristic either in the form of a satire, praise, or the opposite or antonym even
though only a coincidence but it does not rule out the possibility that an anagram
describe the nature of character intentionally made by author in a literary work.
