1. Monica Chi
What motivated her was the sacrifice of her parents, their role model, their hard
work and their desire to raise a family with certain values. Learning and Growth were
two motivating drivers for her. She is not motivated through external motivators like
money and title which shows that she does not have need for power rather, making
progress in certain challenges taken by her motivates her which shows that she has
need for achievement. She also talks about how happy she is with her achievements
and senses her pride in them. This can be inferred by using the Motivational Theory
i.e., McClellands need Theory.
2. Ann Gildroy
Emotion is linked to self- motivation as we can see that every time Ann Gildroy
faced huge hurdles and wanted to give up, he used to think of the way how his
brother (Colin) works hard to achieve his goal even though he fails every time. Every
time he feels Extrinsically motivated by looking at the progress he makes for the
betterment of Iraqis.
3. Jamie Irick
In this case we have observed that Jamie Irick does not follow the Maslow need
hierarchy model as he wants to serve the society by learning and earning. This shows
that he is not following the hierarchy step by step instead he wants to fulfill his
Physiological, Safety and Belonginess need simultaneously. As explained by Goal
Theory, he consistently works hard to achieve a goal of serving the community while
earning and learning throughout his life.
4. Sachin Jain
Sachin has been consistently motivated by his family whom he treats as his role
model. Banduras Social Cognition and Self-Efficacy Theory explains clearly how
Sachin is driven to act by observing his family members. Majority of his family
members are starters who thinks culture is service and giving back to society. By
following the trait of being a starter he developed the spark of entrepreneur skills
and by the consistent drive to give back to the society he developed leadership
qualities in himself.
5. Alex Mandl:
Alex was motivated intrinsically with the satisfaction gained from bringing a fresh
perspective to challenging problems. As explained by Vrooms Expectancy theory,
Alexs decision to work on the complicated problems that other people have
6. Daniel Salvadori:
Daniel is extrinsically motivated to make difference in other peoples lives and
believed in continual learning and meeting new people to achieve her goal. As
explained by the Motivational Language Theory, he was consistently motivated by
her grandfather through questions to learn continually throughout the life in every
way he can. He believed in Team Motivation as he felt that most of the learning
happens by the invaluable inputs, the comments and the perspectives shared by his
fellow students in the class.
