BRIEF REPORT OF SURVEYING TO ADONARA ISLAND

April 5th 2017

Conducted by Syifa and Oldi

We went to Lamahala, Adonara today, assisted by local guide to gain some data regarding ice
blocks distribution. We did questioning to people with different jobs that need ice blocks routinely.
They were papalele, sea-fish collector and land-fish collector. We interviewed each one of them
because it was giving enough information that we need. People with their own jobs that were
described have the same typical needs of ice blocks. We also did interview a fishermen even
though he doesnt use any ice blocks.
In Adonara, particularly East Adonara that are located just across East Solor there are four villages
and its just two of them who have fishermen. They are Terong and Lamahala. In Terong, there
are only 10 boats who use purse-sein fishing tool and they have the similar condition as in
Lamahala. Besides, the fishermen in Lamahala are far plenty, so we just did gain the data in here.
In Lamahala, there are nearly about 100 fishermen boats (with 6-10 GT size) in which all of them
are using purse-sein fishing tool. For all of them, it nearly needs approximately 500 ice blocks for
every fishing moment. In there, there are no ice blocks suppliers. So, they get the ice blocks from
Larantuka (TPI/ JPA/ Ekasapta). Meanwhile, the sea-fish collectors are those with 3-6 GT boat
size. There are almost 60 boats in Lamahala.
In Adonara, the market chain of fishes are already conducted in a very systematical way. We
describe this in here so the ice blocks need will be well defined. The market chain is pictured at

We conclude that they undeniably need ice blocks. But they seem to have overcome their needs
pretty well. The ice blocks buying, they do not have any difficulties with it. From the cost it takes
for transportation, the fuels they need, and the price of the ice blocks itself. Also, the frozen ice
that sometimes they use, are always available because there are a lot of people who sell it and in
every house there must be a refrigerator. In here, theres no electricity-out moment like in
Lamakera, so the making of the frozen ice is all well.
Also, from the plan of ice blocks price were going to sell, itll be difficult to sell ice blocks with
IDR 20K-25K in here. Because, they usually buy them in much cheaper price. And they dont have
any problem with buying it themselves.
For the distribution, the mechanism is very simple. We already have a connection in there (Bang
Iksan) who guarantees that itll be just easy. But with the price range that we plan, I think itll be
a little difficult and it wont be very helpful for the people in there. I suggest that itll be best if we
sell it only in Lamakera.
