According to users, you can fix problems with Microsoft Edge simply by changing the
start page. To do that, you might have to disable your Internet connection first, or
unplug your Ethernet cable. After you disable your Internet connection, do the
following:

1. Start Microsoft Edge.


2. Click the Menu button in the top right corner and choose Settings.

3. Under Open with section select A specific page or


pages, select Customfrom the menu and enter the web address of your new
start page.

4. After you do that, close Edge, turn on your Internet connection and check if the
problem is resolved.

Solution 2 Turn on Windows Firewall

Using a firewall is important for your online safety, especially if you want to prevent

that Windows Firewall might be the cause for this problem, and in order to fix it, you
need to turn the Windows Firewall back on. To do that, follow these steps:

off.

your browser history. To do that, follow these simple steps:

1. Click More button in the top right corner and choose Settings from the menu.

3. Select Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data, Cached data
and files and click the Clear button.

Solution 4 Edit the registry

Changing the registry is somewhat an advanced procedure, and sometimes editing the
registry can cause certain issues with your operating system, therefore be extra
cautions while editing registry. You might even want to create a backup of your registry
so you can easily restore it in case anything goes wrong. To edit your registry, do the
following:
1. Press Windows Key + R and enter regedit.

2. When Registry Editor opens, in the left pane navigate to


the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\LocalSettings\Software\Mic

3. Right click this key and choose Permissions.
4. In Group or user names select Account Unknown (S-1-15-3-
3624051433)and check Full Control in Allow column.

5. Click Apply and OK to save changes.

Solution 5 Create a new user account

Few users suggest that you might be able to fix this problem by creating a new user
account. Creating a new user account is simple, and you can do it by following these
steps:

1. Start the Settings app and go to Accounts section.


2. Go to Family & other users tab and click on Add someone else to this PC.
3. Click on I dont have this persons sign-in information.
4. Click Add a user without a Microsoft account.
5. Enter the username (and password) of the new account and click Nextbutton.

After creating a new user account, switch to it. If Microsoft Edge is working without any
problems on the new account, you might want move your personal files to this new
account and use it as your main account.

Solution 6 Use PowerShell

According to users, you can fix this problem by removing Microsoft Edge folder from
your AppData folder, so lets see how to do that.
1. Press Windows Key + R and enter %localappdata%. Press Enter or click OK.

2. Go to \Packages\ folder and delete


the Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe folder from it.

3. Now start the PowerShell as administrator. To do that, press Windows Key +


S, enter powershell, right click PowerShell from the list of results and
select Run as administrator.

4. When PowerShell opens, enter Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name


Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -
DisableDevelopmentMode -Register
$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml -Verbose} and press Enter to
execute the command.

5. Close PowerShell and restart your PC.

After your PC restarts, check if the issue is resolved. We have to mention that
PowerShell is a powerful tool that can cause stability issues if you dont use it properly,
therefore you might want to create a System Restore point before trying out this
solution.

Solution 7 Switch to local account

Users claim that you can fix problems with Microsoft Edge simply by using a local
Windows 10 account. Using Microsoft account for logging in has certain advantages,
such as syncing your passwords and settings, but in order to fix this problem you might
have to switch to local account. To do that, follow these steps:

1. Open the Settings app and go to Accounts section.


2. Go to Your email and accounts tab and click Sign in with a local account
instead.

3. Enter your current Microsoft account password and click Next.


4. Now Enter your desired user name and password and click Next.
5. After youre done, click Sign out and finish button.

After switching to local account Microsoft Edge should start working again without any
problems. Keep in mind that you can easily switch back to Microsoft account if you
wish.

Solution 8 Change the security permissions

According to users, Microsoft Edge closes because WER folder doesnt have the
necessary permissions. To fix this issue, you need to change the permissions
manually, and you can do that by following these steps:

1. Open AppData\Local folder. For more instructions on how to do this


check Step 1 from Solution 6.
2. Go to the Microsoft\Windows folder. Locate WER folder, right click it and
choose Properties.

3. Go to Security tab and click the Edit button.


4. Select APPLICATION PACKAGES user and check Read & execute, List
folder contents and Read options in Allow column.
5. Click Apply and OK to save changes.

Solution 9 Use CCleaner

Few users reported that this problem can be caused by cached temp files, and to fix
this problem you need to remove those files. One of the fastest ways to do so is to
download and run CCleaner, so you might want to try that. Users reported that after
using the CCleaner and removing the temp files the issue with Microsoft Edge was
resolved.

Solution 10 Reset the Nvidia Optimus Control Panel

Users reported that this issue can be caused by your Nvidia Optimus Control
Panel settings. It seems that Edge doesnt work well with dedicated Nvidia graphic
cards, therefore you need to use Optimus Control Center and set Edge to use your
integrated graphic card instead. Alternatively, you can just reset the Optimus Control
Panel settings to default.

Solution 11 Use Yamisoft Windows 10 Manager

According to some users, you can fix this problem simply by using the Yamisoft
