1.4 Structural description:

2000 kL ESR AT jagira with 20.5 m staging height will be a Reinforced concrete Circular Elevated
water tank, supported on column/beam staging (height of 20.50 m) resting on solid circular
raft. The internal diameter of the tank is 19.1 m and is supported on grid of orthogonal beams
and a ring beam, which are supported on columns resting on circular raft. Top roof of the tank
consists of a slab supported on beams with a maximum span of 4.57 m spanning between the
circular columns submerged inside the tank. Total Height of tank is 6.55 m which consists of a
liquid depth of 6.0 m, free board of 0.3 m below the soffit of lowest beam, and web depth of
top cover slab beam (0.25 m). The Tank Floor slab level of tank is at EL (+) 18.0 m and
Maximum Water Level at EL (+) 24.52 m. Bottom floor slab is spanning between beam column
arrangements. For the maintenance purpose tank is provided with an access through separate
RCC staircase.

1.5 Computer Program /Software

STAAD-PRO software is used for analysis of tank and in-house Excel software is used for
design.
2 SITE CONDITIONS
2.1 Design Ground Elevation
Finished Ground level of the respective tank area is taken as EL (+) 569.50 m level

2.2 Soil Data

The safe bearing capacity of foundation is taken as 300 kN/m2 founded at a minimum
depth of 2.0 m below natural ground level/finished ground level.

4 STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS

4.1 Modelling

ESR walls, is modelled as Plate element in STAAD-PRO with staging. Bottom of columns are
considered fixed at foundation level. Staging is modelled with beam element. Stiffness of the
staging for seismic base shear calculation is obtained through a separate load of 100kN. Wall
has been modelled separately for base Hinged and 50% base fixity.

4.2 Method of Analysis

The structure is analyzed using STAAD-PRO. Walls, Cover Slab, Base Slab & Foundation are
designed using in-house developed Spread sheets. All RCC members like Walls, Roof Slabs &
beams, base slab & beams, submerged Columns etc. of the container are designed as un-
cracked sections as per IS: 3370 (Part 2). However, staging columns are designed by limit state
method, Tie beams, plinth beams and foundation is designed using limit state method as per
IS: 456-2000. Column and beams are detailed as per IS 13920:2016.

4.3 Basic Loads

The ESR is analyzed for following loads
a) Dead load
Self-weight of slab
Roof finish/Water proof treatment = 1 kN/m2

Live load is considered under Deal load.

Roof = 1.5 kN/m2

Stair Case - Center to Center height between Bracing = 4250 mm

No of Step = 22

Load of One Step (DL) = 0.26 x 1 x 25 x 0.06 + 0.14 x 0.05 x 1x x25

= 0.565 kN
Total DL of One flight = 12.43 kN Say 13 kN

Load of One Step (LL) = 0.26 x 5

= 1.3 kN
Total LL of One flight = 28.6 kN Say 29 kN

b) Water load - Hydrotest

Water has been considered full including free board in this condition.
c) Water load - Service
Water has been considered full upto Service height excluding free board in this condition.

d) Wind load
Various design parameters for calculation of wind loads on structures are determined on the
basis of IS: 875 (Part III). Following parameters has been considered for the wind load
calculation.

Basic wind speed = 39 m/sec

Risk coefficient (k1) = 1.06
Topography factor (k3) = 1
Terrain category for (k2) factor = Category 2, Class B

The design horizontal seismic coefficient Ah for the structure will be determined using the
following parameters
Seismic zone = IV
Zone Factor (Z) = 0.10
Ah = [(Z/2) (I/R) (Sa/g)]
Response reduction factor R = 2.5
Importance factor, I =1.5
Damping = 5%
Value of Sa/g is taken from Fig.2 (For Rock )
