All levels will cover vocabulary, proper alignment, anatomy, and artistic expression in their dancing;
all to aid in their technical proficiency as a dance practitioner. Ultimately, it is my goal for students
to explore how dance communicates meaning and connects to physical, mental, emotional health &
well-being.
1. Beginner:
Ages: 14-15 years old (Freshmen, Sophomores)
Duration of Class: 60 minutes 3x per week 1 year curriculum 4 quarter terms
Students Ability: At this beginner level, students should have had dance training of
3+ years, though not required to enroll in this class. Regardless of formal training,
however students should have a general awareness of their body in space and
demonstrate a willingness to learn & drive to excel in their movement practice.
Class Goals: This class will be an introduction to the fundamentals of Modern dance
and somatic practices, like Pilates and Yoga, as integral components of dance
wellness. Two classes a week, students will be expected to participate in an opening
meditation, warm-up, across the floor phrases, and guided movement imagery
exercises. The last day of the week will be dedicated to lecture-based instruction
discussing anatomy, conditioning, and wellness interventions.
2. Intermediate:
Ages: 15-16 years old (Sophomores, Juniors)
Duration of Class: 75 minutes 3x per week 1 year curriculum 4 quarter terms
Students Ability: Students should have completed my Beginner Somatic
Contemporary Dance class or enroll with 6+ years of technical training in any style.
Students should have clear knowledge of basic dance terminology and have a simple
understanding of anatomy and various conditioning practices. Students must also
begin to show clarity and intention in various movement prompts.
Class Goals: This class will build upon the fundamentals and challenge students to
apply theory in their movement practice. Lecture and movement will be more closely
scrutinized and applied together. All three classes students will be expected to
participate in an opening meditation, warm-up, across the floor phrases, and guided
movement imagery exercises.
3. Advanced:
Ages: 17+ (Juniors, Seniors)
Duration of Class: 90 minutes 3x per week 1 year curriculum 4 quarter terms
Students Ability: Students should demonstrate a strong technical proficiency when
tasked with warm-up and center phrases. Dancers should be refining clarity of
movement and further developing their own artistic tendencies when moving. Dancers
should also have a firm understanding of their anatomy, proper alignment, and begin
to integrate their own personal wellness practice to begin each class.
Class Goals: This class will call on dancers to be more autonomous agents in their
dance training. They will continue to develop their craft and discipline as
somatically-sound contemporary dancers. Improvisational work, including partnering,
will be used as tool sets to enhance a dancers bodily awareness in a collective group.
The pace of the class will be challenging as dancers negotiate commitment to their
own technique, claiming their movement signature, while also integrating foundational
partnering skills as well.
All classes are designed and carried out through Anne Green Gilberts Creative Dance methodology.
Creative dance is a dance for all-ages, to be taught anywhere and at any developmental stage.
Classes are mindfully created, emphasizing concepts rather skills to deepen a childs learning and
foster technical and creative movement knowledge. Through structure, guidance, and exploration
these tiny movers will begin to cultivate a love for dance!
