Wise Eyes: This article explains how teachers have a challenging time to come up

with topics that will put students on the right track. Several examples of how to

make an effective writing prompt were discussed. For many young writers, the

invitation to write about personal experience opens up a whole range of responses,

while leveling the playing field by making the content as approachable and

appealing as possible to most students. Unlike topics which require students to

write about information which they believe the reader already has the topics allow

students to impart information which only they possess: on what they remember

what they think, how they feel can write with authority. Students are being

motivated and encouraged by teachers to promote effective writing prompts.

Personal experiences: Teachers should focus on making sure students can write

with authority. This is called writing about experiences a student had during a

family holiday, which was memorable.

Personal connection: I think this article is a great tool for teachers to refer to when

teaching writing. The articles relates to myself in a very effective way. I will strive to
make topics interesting so my students are writing with authority and having an

interest in what they are discussing. In the article, students are being motivated by

teachers to promote effective writing prompts. This is something I will definitely use

when I am teaching my students writing. My goal is to make sure my students are

motivated and encouraged when it comes to their writing.

How to Publish Student Writing: Teachers in this article did a different method of

publicizing students writing. In the article Oral publication was a method that was

conducted. Rebekah Caplan showed this approach and read out loud students

writings. Students initially are very embarrassed with this approach, but If you

maintain the writers anonymity, either by not identifying the author at all or by

identifying her by a pen name she selects, this resistance should dissipate. The

teacher has the students write a paragraph daily and the teacher reading up to five

paragraphs aloud each day.

Ways that promote students writing in a fun way- Bulletin Boards that establish a

For Writers Only bulletin board in the classroom.

Cumulative Folder- keeps a lose leaf binder for students

Class Journal- Contains students entries

Class Newsletter- Keeps parents, students, and administrators informed current and

future events.

School Publications- Have your students submit their writing for publication.

Writing Contests- solicit local service clubs or business to sponsor prizes for a

school or district-wide writing contest.

Personal connection: This article is a great way to generate many ideas for teachers

on ways to publish writing. The ideas that were exemplified in this article will work

very well for my career as a teacher. I will use ways, like class newsletter, school

publications, and a cumulative folder to help my students publish their writings.

These are fun ways that were mentioned in the article to publish students thoughts

and its a very effective way to do this.

invested in their work is essential in success. Publishing student writing is an

important step of the writing process. When students write for real audiences, they

are more motivated to write passionately and to pay closer attention to writing

correctly. These are key components in understanding why publishing writing is so

important.

Some examples of fun ways for students to publish their writings:

Best Practices in Teaching Writing: This articles hits on a list of practices that help

students develop their writings. Teachers are starting to become very aware of how

important this skill is. In this article, students are devoting their time in creating and

implementing these list of strategies, so teachers and students are on the same page

when it comes to publishing writing. A list of selected teaching practices that are
well recognized in the profession as being effective in helping students develop as

writers. There are many effective ways to accomplish this task, but some that stood

out are:

Establishing a positive atmosphere for writing, reading, learning- It is imperative in

teaching writing for teachers to illustrate that classroom is a very positive place to

be, especially for writing and reading. Students should feel they are part of a

community of people supporting each other in developing as writers, readers, and

thinkers.

An inviting classroom- Encouraging student to talk to each other will make a fun and

creative environment for learning.

Respect for and among students- having students make sure they are respectful to

their peers and teachers.

The writers notebook- Whatever the teacher and students think is helpful, they can

put their ideas in this tool, so it can be used for classroom activities. This a fun way

to get ideas out and be useful during the class.

because effective practices are being discussed. Teachers need to be aware of how

important publishing writing is. I will make it a prerogative to show my students

how important publishing writing is. A positive environment is discussed in this

article and it is so accurate. My classroom will be a great atmosphere where my

students will enjoy coming to class and having fun as they learn.

Tompkins, G. E. (2012). The writing process In Teaching writing: Balancing

process and product (2-30). Boston, MA: Pearson.

In this chapter, The Writing Process, it mentions the five different stages of the

writing process, which are pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. It

is very important for students to know and be able to successfully complete every

stage of the writing process when they are writing. With my main topic being over

publishing, chapter 1, has great key ideas about publishing:

Publishing motivates [students] to improve their writing because they know

theyll share it with a real audience (Tompkins, 15).

Publishing is one of the best ways to encourage students to revise and edit

their writing.

One of the most poplar ways for students to share their writing with others

is by making and binding books (Tompkins, 16). It is a very simple task that

teacher can do in order to create a booklet for the students to use to create

their own books, just fold paper into quarters, like a greeting card, and have

children write on the front and have the three sides remaining for their

writing.

Sharing writing is a social activity, and having students share can help

students develop sensitivity to the audience and confidence in themselves as

authors (Tompkins, 16).

Personal Connection: These are great ways for teachers to model their lessons when

it comes to writing on effective ways of publishing writing. I will use these examples

to publish students writings. For instance, explaining the importance to my

students about publishing writing and how they will be able to revisit their work

and edit it. These activities will produce maximum results and it is great for an

aspiring teacher, like myself.

Tompkins, G. E. (2012). The writers craft In Teaching writing: Balancing

process and product (58-80). Boston, MA: Pearson.

Writers craft is specific techniques and tools writers use to capture the readers

attention and convey a meaning. There are six traits in writers craft: ideas,

organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions, and presentation.

Presentation has a lot to do with writers publishing and sharing their work to an

audience. Presentation means making the final copy of a composition look good

(Tompkins, 66). Students produce the final copy of their work carefully with legible

handwriting, or some students may use word processing so classmates and other

readers can read the writers work. Presentation includes:

Adding text features

Arranging words and illustrations on the page

Using legible handwriting

Using words processing Effectively.

When teachers are teaching students the presentation trait, teachers work with the

students to examine the train in different mentor text and in their own writing. Also,

they teach them how to use technology when publishing and presenting their work

to the readers.

Personal Connection: In this chapter different techniques and tools are explained

thoroughly to help writers become successful in their craft. I can use these tools to
help me in the future with my students. I want to make sure they master these

concepts of writing and these examples discussed in this chapter will be very

effective for me in the future. The techniques discussed, like adding text features,

arranging words and illustrations, using legible handwriting, and using word

processing effectively are amazing tools to help teachers and student achieve

success.

Tompkins, G. E. (2012). Developing strategic writers In Teaching writing:

Balancing process and product (34-55). Boston, MA: Pearson.

Writers must apply different strategies when they plan, revise, and edit their work.

Research has found that strategic writers work is more dramatically better than

those of other students, and that instruction in writing strategies is particularly

important for struggling students. Writers need to apply the different writing

strategies into their compositions in order to be a better writer. The 12 different

writing strategies that students need to master in order to help improve their

writing are: elaborating, evaluating, formatting, generating, monitoring, narrowing,

organizing, proofreading, questioning, rereading, revising, and setting goal for

themselves. The writing strategies, which are listed above, fit into the different

stages of the writing process. For publishing the writers use the writing strategies

evaluating, monitoring, formatting, and questions. Students format or design the

layout of their composition and prepare the final copy. They also evaluate the

quality of their writing and their use of writing strategies (Tompkins, 44).

Personal Connection: This chapter does a great job in explaining different strategies

writers need to apply in order to be successful. For instance a few strategies for
writers are, elaborating, evaluate, and narrow in their work. These are some things I

can teach my students, so they can reach their full potential when it comes to

writing. I want to always make sure I am using different strategies and presenting

effective ways of learning for my students, so they always have options on what

works for them.
