Your Name: Tatiana Facer Dates of Activities: September 30th, 2017 & November 28th, 2017
The first professional activity that I participated in was an Emergency Civilian Casualty
Care Training course taught by the Medical Reserve Corps. In a four-hour class, we learned
about the use of tourniquets and how to pack emergency kits for home use.
The second professional activity that I participated in was a Stop the Bleed class which
was coupled with a Rapid Trauma Assessment and Triage training. This class was very hands on
with tourniquet/wound packing/lifting exercises. The course also included trauma scenarios
Where was this held and what was was program/activity length?
The Emergency Civilian Casualty Care Training course was held at the Red Cross and
was four hours long. The Stop the Bleed class was held at the University of Arizona College of
The Emergency training class was valuable for me because it helped me to understand
what the role of public health is during emergencies such as disasters and violent events. It also
enhanced my knowledge regarding the Medical Reserve Corps. The Stop the Bleed class was
extremely helpful for me, because it was a hands-on experience, and it allowed me to learn
aspects of emergency care that I have not yet learned about in nursing school.
Would you recommend this specific communnity/professional experience in the future; why
I would recommend both professional activities in the future. The Emergency training,
although not hands-on, is informative and useful for the topic of emergency preparedness at
home. It also offers the opportunity to become connected with the Medical Reserve Corps and
their other educational seminars. The Stop the Bleed class was immensely helpful for me in
particular, because I have an interest in emergency nursing. It is a great resource for anyone in
the community, and the more people who take it, the better chance people have at surviving
emergency situations.
