BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY:

Our country has a lot of waste, plastic bags to be specific, that are
scattered everywhere, like other countries we are not even exceptional. This is
an issue ever since, people just throw the recyclable materials like plastics and
let it out. Our group conducted a study and found a way to lessen the said issue
by making it into a block. Waste utilization has become a great alternative for
the additives. We used the plastic as a binder and a replacement for the
cement, although their properties are different but still plastic as being melted
can become a great binder as of cement. We traced the study from the
country of Africa where in they melt the plastic with a high temperature until it is
liquify and mixed it with fine sand. In their country, they only produce pavements
and they do not have the study for making it into a block.

Using recycled waste material is common in our generation, but making it

as an aggregate is astonishing. It can be a sensible product. Our study shows
that the finished blocks is very convenient due to its compressibility strength and
flexibility. Its high-resistance to shocks and its ability to repel water can be a
good use to the community especially to those who cant afford to buy
materials for making a concrete. The project involved the use of 1 kilo plastic
bag and 1 kilo fine sand making it a 1:1 ratio, we managed to conclude with
the said ratio due to the reason that if 1kilo fine of sand were mixed with 2 kilos
of plastic bag, the block will end up with a thick layer of plastics and it
compressibility strength will downgrade as well to its flexibility. Same goes for 2
kilos of sand and 1 kilo of plastic. if sand is dominant then its compressibility
strength will go down but the flexural stress will rise up. Melted plastics is a good
substitution to cement and can give a good approach to reduce the solid
waste problems such as plastic bags.
