(K)1.1 count up to 20 objects to determine quantity [NS/PS 1.K.5]

2. Objectives:

SWBAT - Count to fifteen, using goldfish crackers.

3. Materials/Equipment: Goldfish crackers, worksheet.

4. Teaching:
A. Reading the book: Show the class the book and read the title:
Memoirs of a Goldfish. Wow, does that goldfish look happy? Whats
wrong with him? Lets read to find out why this is happening.
Read the story and pause to point out images in the illustrations.
Ask the students questions like How do you think the fish feels?
At the end of the story ask the students how many fish they think were in
the tank.
B. Extension activity: Today we are going to count our own fish!
*Pass out papers and give each student 15 goldfish crackers.
First, youre going to place one goldfish cracker onto the paper next
to the one.
Then youre going to put two goldfish crackers next to the 2.
Do that until you get to 5!

5. Closure:
How many fish do you have total on your paper?
Do you think that you have more than the fish tank in
the story?
You may eat your goldfish now!
