CHARACTER Who is the main character? Explain the characters personality traits. How can the reader
relate to the character, become involved in the story?
Who are the supporting characters? Give examples of both.
The main character in this story is a little boy who has anxiety. His imagination runs away with him
about every little thing that his body does, causing him to panic. Children going through changes,
learning about their own bodies, or children who have anxiety issues will be able to relate to the little
boy. The only supporting characters are the little boys parents but they dont really say anything, it is
just implied that they are speaking to him about his body. There are two pages where the parents are
illustrated on.
1. PLOT: (Explains the major events in the story.) Summarize the plot
Setting: The story takes place in the little boys house during the day.
Theme: Anxiety , fear, and body changes.
ILLUSTRATION Analyze the illustrations in the book (see Chapter 4) with the categories below: Choose a 2-
page spread in the book to answer the following:
What Style (realism, surrealism, expressionism, impressionism, nave, cartoon art)?

Visual elements:
Line: Outlines of hat, shirt, sandbox, barn house, hose, his frown on his face, his toys, blades of grass, outline of the little
boy, his sweat drops.
Shapes: Circle eyeballs and pupils, square sandbox, oval hat and toes, animal shapes toys, long curvy water hose, square
head, top of the tank is a circle.
Color: Green hat, brown hair, yellow shirt, red pants, purple sandbox, brown sand, green hose, blue water, red barn, green
tank and dinosaur, white and black cow, brown horse white chickens, pink pig, red and purple shovel, white sheep.
Texture: The blades of grass have a sharp texture, the sand has a rough texture, the sheep has a soft texture, the boys hair
has a fuzzy texture.
Explain how illustration and text are combined to tell the story. What do illustrations show that text does not
explain?
The text and illustrations work together to show how fearful the little boy was when he found the skin
peeling from his toes. The text says, Next day when I was outside playing with the water hose, I saw
that little bits of skin were peeling from my toes. The illustrations show the boy looking at his toes
with wide eyes and sweat flying off his head.
The illustrations show that he is in the sandbox with all his toys, but the text does not mention that.
Describe the Page design: the borders, use of white/dark space, text placement & size, font, placement of illustrations:
The text is placed on the top of the right page. From the half way point to the top of the page, the
pages are white except for the little boy filling some of the white area on the left page. From the
middle part, down is the sandbox and toys.
