Word Choices: Amazed, wondered, understood, weak, scared, worried, dismayed, amazed, horrified
Sentence length: It varies between short sentences like, Now Im really worried, to longer
sentences like, So now, today, Im sitting here enjoying Dr. Suess, and suddenly I realize a tooth is
coming loose!
Dialogue: There is no dialogue. In one section of the book the illustration shows the little boys
parents talking to him, but he is reiterating what they told him when he says, What? You forgot? To
tell me teeth fall out? And when they do, some brand-new teeth will soon begin to sprout? My hair
my skin, my everything- Theres nothing I should fear? So, all of me is normal. Whew! Thats really
good to hear.
Rhythm: There is a rhythm, I think it was three days ago
I first became aware-
That in my comb were caught a couple
Pieces of my hair.
Rhyme: The 2nd and 4th line rhyme, And now Im thinking to myself,
Whats next in line to go?
Might be my ears; might be my eyeballs.
Hows a kid to know?
Unexpected insights from this book would be vocabulary words for emotions like from the page that
reads, I wiggle it, amazed, dismayed, too horrified to speak. Without my teeth, how can I eat?
Already I feel weak! Now Im really worried, Im as scared as I can be, Cause finally whats happening
is very clear to see-

relate to the character, become involved in the story?
Who are the supporting characters? Give examples of both.
The main character in this story is a little boy who has anxiety. His imagination runs away with him
about every little thing that his body does, causing him to panic. Children going through changes,
learning about their own bodies, or children who have anxiety issues will be able to relate to the little
boy. The only supporting characters are the little boys parents but they dont really say anything, it is
just implied that they are speaking to him about his body. There are two pages where the parents are
illustrated on.
1. PLOT: (Explains the major events in the story.) Summarize the plot

1. Little boy starts questioning what is happening to him.


2. His hair falls out into his comb, he thinks he is going bald.
3. He finds belly button lint and thinks his stuffing is coming out.
4. The skin on his toes start to peel and he thinks all his skin will fall off.
5. Something falls out of his nose and he thinks it is part of his brain.
6. His tooth becomes loose, so he thinks his body glue is no longer holding him together.
7. He wraps himself in masking tape.
8. His parents explain that these body changes are normal.
9. He finds wax in his ear and starts to panic again.

Setting: The story takes place in the little boys house during the day.

Texture: The blades of grass have a sharp texture, the sand has a rough texture, the sheep has a soft texture, the boys hair
has a fuzzy texture.

Explain how illustration and text are combined to tell the story. What do illustrations show that text does not
explain?
The text and illustrations work together to show how fearful the little boy was when he found the skin
peeling from his toes. The text says, Next day when I was outside playing with the water hose, I saw
that little bits of skin were peeling from my toes. The illustrations show the boy looking at his toes
with wide eyes and sweat flying off his head.
The illustrations show that he is in the sandbox with all his toys, but the text does not mention that.
Describe the Page design: the borders, use of white/dark space, text placement & size, font, placement of illustrations:
The text is placed on the top of the right page. From the half way point to the top of the page, the
pages are white except for the little boy filling some of the white area on the left page. From the
middle part, down is the sandbox and toys.
