Teaching Practice Task 2 Monitoring the Learning

Program link: This task is associated to the guidelines of the course EPR 3023
Teaching Methods for the Primary School Teacher (Course learning outcomes 4
Plan and implement appropriate modes of assessment for primary mathematics teaching
and learning)

Objective: Describe how you monitored the learning when the students were working on
their activities and identify the tools used to record your data. For each lesson you teach,
you will describe the tool that you use to monitor the work of the children. In the second
column, you will describe how you used that tool and you will reflect on how useful it
was.

Grade Level: _______one________________ MST Name: Fatima Almajdi

For each Tools used to monitor Explain why you used that tool and
lesson the learning (rubric, reflect on how successful it was
taught notes, chart)
1 cards shaped as I used the alligator cards in comparing
Lesson 1 Alligator with opened numbers lesson to make it easier and
mouth. understandable for them because they
are kids who need easy and fun
methods to learn.
Using this tool has aided the students in
solving comparing numbers questions
where the student identify the bigger
number then put the opened alligator
mouth on the big number then write the
sign which is like the alligator mouth
shape.
2 Big & Small Number I used the big number line which was on
Lesson 2 lines. the floor to introduce the use of number
line in subtraction and addition. By
playing jumping on number-line game,
the students were excited to play and all
of them got the idea of the using of
number line.
After that I gave each student a small
number line with a small object sticked
on it so they can move it. This tool has
aided them in solving addition and
subtraction questions and they were
using it easily and get familiar to use it.
So it was effective and successful
method because by using the number
line they can answer the questions
faster and easier.
3 Objects:2 birds, 1 nest I used these objects to introduce the
Lesson 3 and 5 eggs. new lesson which was about subtract 0
and subtract all. So I tell them a story
by using the objects to make it easier for

them to comprehend. While I'm telling
the story I was asking them questions to
make sure that they understand. The
story was like there was a beautiful red bird,
she put her eggs in the nest and went to bring
them food.(lets count how many eggs did she
put?) then a green bird came and take all of the
five eggs! (how many eggs did she took?). After
that they recognize that 5-5=0
it was effective because the students were
participating with me which mean they got the
idea.

4 Cubes In the addition subtraction lesson I've

Lesson 4 used the cubes to scaffold the students
so in this stage they practice adding and
subtracting by cubes which was really
useful for them especially for the low
ability students because they get used
to add and subtract by cubes and now
they have the ability to answer
questions without help. I realized that
this method was better and easier than
the number line for the LA students.
5 Bowling toy I used it as engaging activity in
Lesson 5 subtracting lesson. And thats where I
took three students to play from each
group, first student throw the ball,
second student count the bowling pins
and the third one write the equation on
the whiteboard. It was really fun and the
students were super motivated and
engaged because they learned through
something that they like. All of the
students got the purpose of the game
because they were counting together
and I asked them if the written equation
is correct or no.
6 Balls of questions In most of my lessons I ended up the
Lesson 6 lesson by giving each group a ball so
they open the ball and read the question
and discuss together for 2 or 1 minute
and come to write the answer on the
board or say it loudly. It's really effective
for many reasons such as, aid me to
check their understanding, develop their
communicating skills and support
cooperative.
7 Dirhams In the lesson of subtracting numbers
Lesson 7 from the number 8 I gave each student
fake 8 dirhams and I ask them to buy
from me a ticket and the ticket price is 4.

so by doing that the student got an idea
of subtracting and how it linked to their
daily life and that what I want to transfer
for them that math is part of their life and
math is fun.
They were so excited to buy the tickets,
so it was successful because the
understood the concept.
