Criteria for Judging Declamation

The following shall be the criteria for judging

Memorization - The student has memorized the entire poem and is able to present it without error

Expression The student has an effective and expressive intonation used to reinforce change in mood, voice,
setting, and/or characterization.

Eye Contact The student established eye contact with all members of the audience during the presentation.

Voice Projection - Volume is loud enough to be heard by all audience members throughout the presentation.
Performer speaks clearly and paces performance. Is easily understood by all audience members all the time.

Clarity of speaking - Speaks clearly and distinctly all (100-95%) the time, and mispronounces no words.

Each criterion shall be scored on a 5-point system wherein 5 is the highest and 1 is the lowest. The
student with the highest total points shall be declared the winner.

Criteria for Judging Storytelling

The following shall be the criteria for judging

Voice Mechanics The student speaks with an appropriate volume for the audience to hear. Employs clear
enunciation. Uses non-monotonous, vocal expression to clarify the meaning of the text.

Focus Concentration is clear. Eye contact with audience is engaging. Maintains a charismatic presence in space
(stage presence).

Use of Space - Storyteller seems comfortable, relaxed and confident in front of listeners. Storyteller maintains
clear spatial relationships for characters and narrator.

Pacing - The story is presented efficiently and keeps listeners' interest throughout.

Body Language & Gesture - Expressively uses non-verbal communication to clarify the meaning of the text.

student with the highest total points shall be declared the winner.

Criteria for Judging Oratorical Speech

The following shall be the criteria for judging

Preparedness (30%) - The Student is completely prepared and has obviously rehearsed.

Delivery(30%) - The speech reflects truly impressive command of how to build and deliver a powerful message.
The speech is successfully and strategically sequenced to move the listener.

Stage presence and personality(30%) The student stands with poise and maintains a steady pace.

Over-all impact (10%) The student successfully delivered the message of the speech.
