Bill and Nancy Taylor

"WOLVES OF COCOLALLA" By Bill and Nancy Taylor "WOLF LOVE STORIES" I am Bill Taylor, a wolf photographer and have worked with wolves for 20 years. About 10% of my knowledge of wolves has come from books, but the rest has been hands-on experience. I have many stories of love, and happiness and, yes, sadness. Their love is an experience that I will never forget and I don't want to forget. Wolves have been a joyful part of my life and I have many memories. I hope this information (the book) will help you and also the wolf.

Wolves of Cocolalla - Bill and Nancy Taylor

    Our Beginning

Nancy and I met in 1984 and we got married in 1985.

I remember too, that it was a love adjustment to me because I was not use to having dogs in the house and still feel uncomfortable with a dog always wanting to play and licking my face or finding hair here and there.

My love for Nancy conquered all, I was happy.

Later it broke my heart that I learned that Nancy was keeping the little long haired red dog Pixie more confined in the house because of me. We should have talked about it sooner because I had learn to love the little dog and didn’t realize that it was because of me. We are all victims of our childhood or parents, it took a while to let go of my habits and get use to this change of lifestyle, but it was a change for the better for me.

Pixie was a Cocker Spaniel and Dachshund mix and was unusual and beautiful. I am still happy that this change happen in my life, as I said, I am a better person and it has helped me love and forgive more.

If you and I love animals we can also love people more. I read that if we hate or slaughter animals, it effects our love of people. Isaac Bashevis Singer said, "As long as people will shed the blood of innocent creatures there can be no peace, no liberty, no harmony between people. Slaughter and justice does not happen.

We lived in the Phoenix area and we enjoyed going to Greer, AZ to a cabin there. There were nice restaurants and our favorite meal was White Fish with Salsa over it with all the trimmings, it was one of our favorite places to visit. The second time we went there we took Nancy’s Collie mix and his name was Rocky. Rocky had already picked up on my strangeness so he jumped out of the car and ran into the cabin ahead

of us and jumped onto the couch, rolled onto his back and stretched all four feet out and looked like a human taking over the couch. I said Ok, Rocky the couch is yours, We both laughed about his act of funning with me. Rocky, would also turn his back to me when I did something he didn’t like.

When I was about 9 years old I lived in rural Texas and we had a shepherd mix dog, a Border Collie probably, a cream color mostly, his name was Pal and he was never in the house because my mother didn’t allow pets inside so this is why I had an adjustment to make with Rocky and Pixie. Anyway, I went everywhere with Pal my dog. We would play and go fishing and hunting together. My two brothers also have the same memories as I do, Pal was really our best friend. All three of us kept him busy with our adventures. I had never experienced being with a human or pet dying, so this was a painful thing to me when someone poisoned my dog, he wasn’t coming back and we could never play again. I have always even to this day had his memories of our adventures. I made up my mind not to be hurt again and the way I did this was to never get involved with dogs again. Nancy started me back to enjoying dogs and the relationship I had with Rocky was interesting to me as he expressed himself in our relationship. He was saying to me I love you even though you are weird, we all laughed about it. One of the reasons I love wolves is that they won’t live in the house and if you tried to keep them in the house they would do a lot of damage getting out.

With wolves you can go outside with your play or fun clothes on and play with the wolves, they love the outdoors. They stay with their mate and enclosure and we go back into the house, and everybody is doing what they enjoy doing. I have changed though and don’t mind a dog in the house if they are taught what you expect from them. I am so thankful that I am back loving and being with canines, especially wolves.

In 1987, we begin to get interested in wolves. Nancy got me a wolf/malamute, wolf hybrid, for Christmas. He was white with black markings and quickly became one of the delights of my life, we named him Shiloh because Shiloh means Gift for Him. We believe that no canine should be left alone so we picked out a wolf/malamute female for him and her name became Shana. She was rust and black with a few white markings on her neck and feet. Shiloh was born in September of 1987 and a couple of weeks older than Shana and they were very interesting and a real joy. We noticed right away that they were more than a dog.
