Company:- Wasmi Holding Company Topic:- Electrical cable safety
Description:
Most of the activities at site use of various power tools with welding, associated grinding , cutting and electrical works performed.
The poor cable management and defective cable generate potential hazards like Arcs, Sparks & Heat which when not paid attention closely
will lead to on-site fires, explosions, electrocution, burn & property damages especially with the on set of the summer season with extremely
high temperatures & humidity, cable lead to slip, trip and fall hazard.
In order to ensure worker should be familiar to perform electrical job safely & always reminded as well of the following important points
cables that we often encounter & became part of our work place area.
Potential hazard of Electrical cable
1. Sparks & Heat. 2. fires, explosions, Electrocution, burn.
3. Slip, Trip and Fall 4. Property damages.
Control Measure-
1. Cables must be in good condition at all times especially in an operating.
2. Cables must be protected against any damage regardless if minor or major and Defective cables to be immediately brought out from site.
3. Position cables away from possible process hazards & equipment traffic.
4. Inspect & color code cables for defects, deterioration, etc. daily or before each use.
5. Roll Up of cables is again a good & safe practice for this purpose.
6. Check out for loose connections & fittings.
7. Extension cords should only be used on a temporary basis never use a cord that feels hot or is damaged in any way.
8. Do not run extension cords under carpets, across doorways, walkway, access and egress This may cause the cord to overheat, creating a
serious fire hazard.
9. Insert plugs fully so that no part is exposed when the extension cord is in use.
10. Do not nail or staple electrical cords to walls or baseboards.
11. Never connect an electrical wire with an amperage rating less than the circuit breaker that is protecting it, if a wire is connected to a 20-amp
circuit breaker, it needs to be rated for 20 amps also.
12. If a circuit breaker trips, there is a problem somewhere. Continually resetting breakers is not the answer to your problems.
13. GFCI breakers shall be provided for all electrical works.
14. All extension cords are three-wire cords, and Cords are not stapled or hung from nails.
15. The ground pin is on a male plug.
16. The cables and cords shall be organized
17. The panel ,equipment shall be grounded properly when using electrical cable.
18. All tools shall be double insulated tools.
