Technology Exploration Template

Your name:___Jake Clark__________

Grade Level that you intend to teach for this activity: __9th_________
Content Area: __English_________
Technology Tool(s): __WriteAbout_________________

Summary of your technology project (What is your overall intent with this lesson/activity?
Describe how you will use technology in this lesson/activity?)

Students will use WriteAbout to help them in their writing processes. As their instructor, I can use
WriteAbout as a technology template for students to be able to respond to multiple prompts
about the reading we are covering in the lesson. For this example, I will use the book The Giver.
Students may have been exposed to this book previously in their English language courses, but
this book can be interpreted may ways, so using Write about, the students can reply to a variety
of probing promts that I can post. Students can also reply and receive feedback from peers in the
class.

Learning Targets (What will your students be able to do when they have finished this lesson?
What idea, topic, or subject is important for your students to learn and understand so that they
can do this? How will your students show that they can do this, and how well they can do this?)

Students will have been able to write creatively and have been able to see other classmates
ideas from the various prompts that I have posted. They will be able to connect reading to
writing from using complex plot ideas that have presented themselves in the texts weve read.
WriteAbout will also allow students to learn more about to writing process itself, as it is a online
source that allows for the students to go through the entire process of writing. Students will
show their learning through their writings and responses to other classmates writings.

Artifact (Show us how you would use selected technology tool(s) in this lesson? This could be
something you would use as an instructor or a mock student project to demonstrate how they
may use selected technology tool(s) to in their learning. Include a URL link of the artifact or
attach the artifact in ACE forums). 6 points

This tool requires students to receive an access code from the instructor to access the course
through WriteAbout. I will first introduce the students to this technology tool, and then gradually
start assigning them to complete their writing on WriteAbout once they fully understand how to
use it. One greet feature is that mini lessons can be created, so for instance I can assign the
students to complete the how to on writing processes so they can complete all steps that
WriteAbout suggest for a good writing.

Mentions at least 2 specific points from exploring and using the tool. (2 points)

TPACK Connections (How does the use of technology in this lesson fit the TPACK framework?
How do I know that technology is not an add-on, instead demonstrates effective integration of
knowledge? If you think your Content, instructional strategies and technology fit together
strongly within the instructional plan, explain it!)

This online tool is very TPACK friendly. The tool is a very useful tool in which it can be used to
refresh or reteach the writing process to students electronically without the instructor having to
do so. This tool Is not an add of because it truly helps the students grow in the writing skills and
better learn and understand the proper writing process! Students will be able to connect to other
classmates via the resource and that will allow they to better their understandings of complex
ideas through their peers in their classes.
