Horten Ho 229 Stealth Bomber/ Creation of Night Vision Work Cited

Lee, Russ. Horten Ho 229 V3. National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian , 7 Oct. 2017,
www.airandspace.si.edu/collection-objects/horten-ho-229-v3.

This site gives the specs of the Horten 229 Stealth Bomber. It also displays images of the only
recovered Horten in existence. So I can reference the specs and pictures to further describe in
detail how the Horten looked and operated. The Author is employed by the respected
Smithsonian Museum, so it is safe to say the info is reliable and accurate.

Vordeaux, Jack. The Only Surviving Horten Ho 229 - Hitler's Stealth Fighter. WAR
HISTORY ONLINE, 12 Oct. 2016, www.warhistoryonline.com/military-vehicle-news/the-only-
surviving-horten-ho-229-hitlers-stealth-fighter.html.

This article touches on the fact that the Horten 229 was Hitlers Secret Weapon. It was going
to be the weapon that would spark the attack on the US. It also states how the initial goal of the
project was not to make the Horten stealth, rather build a plane that could reach America.
Bordeaux also makes a connection with the Horten and today's latest stealth bomber, the B-2.
They are strikingly similar in look, which is quite interesting. The author seems very reliable, he
displayed authentic pictures, and compared with other sources his info matched up.

Maksel, Rebecca. Restoring Germany. Air & Space Magazine, Smithsonian,

www.airspacemag.com/history-of-flight/horten-flying-wing-180960066/.

This source goes into the discovery of the Horton 229, and how it got here to America to be
evaluated and re engineered. It has new info about how the Americans came across this marvel
of engineering, and where the Horten 229 lies today. Which is in the National Space and
Aeronautics Storage Warehouse just outside of Washington D.C. It was interesting to read how
engineers over here wanted to conserve it and study it, it is still revolutionary to this day. The
source also details the chemical makeup of the sonar deflecting paint, and the inside mechanics
of the Horten, both of which will be included in our paper. Maksel is also part of the Smithsonian
group, so I know the info is accurate.

Alex, Dan. Horten Ho IX / Ho 229 Jet-Powered Flying Wing / Fighter-Bomber. Military

Weapons, Military Factory, 26 Dec. 2016,
www.militaryfactory.com/aircraft/detail.asp?aircraft_id=105.

This article states the innovations in the Horten 229. It goes into detail about the actual design of
it, and how the boomerang shape of the Horten reduces drag greatly, allowing for faster speeds
and longer range. It is very useful information since it mainly focuses on the innovative
engineering rather than history, so this info will be included in our paper.

Tarantola, Andrew. The First Flying Wing Jet Could Have Won WWII for the Nazis.
Gizmodo, Gizmodo.com, 23 Oct. 2014, www.gizmodo.com/the-first-flying-wing-jet-could-have-
won-wwii-for-the-n-1649401748.
This article touches on the what could have beens. It explains the great impact the Horten
could have had on a global stage. Tarantola also touches on world domination, and the key factor
the Horten played in it. This source is rather redundant to my other sources but does offer good
insight to the what ifs the Nazi Regime.

Post, Guest. Illuminating War: The Advent of Night Vision During World War II (Guest
Post).Hankering for History, 25 Mar. 2014, www.hankeringforhistory.com/illuminating-war-
the-advent-of-night-vision-during-world-war-ii-guest-post/.

This article dives into how night vision was introduced into the war fronts of WW2, and how it
has changed how wars were fought. With night vision, soldiers could now obviously attack at
night. This excited Hitler, as he could send soldiers into enemy towns to basically kill people in
there sleep. Scary stuff to say the least.

German Infrared Night-Vision Devices Infrarot-Scheinwerfer. Achtung Panzer RSS,

www.achtungpanzer.com/german-infrared-night-vision-devices-infrarot-scheinwerfer.htm.

This article goes into specifically the German creation of night vision, and how they used it on
the battlefield. It states how Hitler used it in his famous tactic of blitzkrieg. It also states the
cumbersome aspect of the new technology, and how it was not as popular on smaller missions,
just due to inconvenience.

Ault, Alicia. Ask Smithsonian: How Does Night Vision Work? Smithsonian.com, Smithsonian
Institution, 6 Oct. 2015, www.smithsonianmag.com/smithsonian-institution/ask-smithsonian-
how-does-night-vision-work-180956656/.

This source gave insight as to night vision actually worked. It multiplies any given light either
from natural light or man made. Now a days it is an attachment on a soldier's helmet, but back in
world war two it was a cumbersome attachment either on a truck bed or an assault rifle. This is
useful info due to the fact that I have no idea how night vision worked, and I will include it in
our paper.

Matchar, Emily. Seeing in the Dark: The History of Night Vision. Smithsonian.com,
Smithsonian Institution, 19 May 2017, www.smithsonianmag.com/innovation/seeing-dark-
history-night-vision-180963357/.

This article does not solely focus on Nazi innovations, rather than the history of Night Vision. I
wanted to include this info to enlighten not only myself about this tech, but to enlighten the
reader of our paper as well. It will help me get a wider perspective of the history behind Night
Vision, and how it originated with the Nazis and grew into one of the most important
technologies used in war, and finding bigfoot.

Wittman, Robert K, and David Kinney. The Devil's Diary: Alfred Rosenberg and the Stolen
Secrets of the Third Reich. , 2016. Print.
This book details the Nazis plan to attack the United States, and basically take over the world. It
also goes into secret projects such as the Horten 229 and Die Glocke. It does villainize the Nazis
rightfully so, but does glorify the fact of their incredible innovation during a time of war. The
author, Robert Wittman, does seem to know what he is talking about. I will be using the info
about world domination in our paper, and how the Horten 229 played a significant role in it.
