book.
Mikamba is the main character who watches over the plains in Africa. This story is based off of the
old song, Old MacDonald had a farm. Instead of the normal animals you would come across on an
American farm though, the book goes through the African animals such as, elephants, cheetahs,
warthogs, and giraffes! Mikamba is shown in his African clothing that has a gold color with sewn
patches throughout.

Explain how the book appeals to children, their interests, developmental levels, fun
illustrations etc. Give specific examples from the book:

Children love animals and love Old Macdonald had a farm. Because they already know the
basis for the song, it is fun for them to apply other animals to it. They will quickly catch
onto saying, Old Mikamba has a farm, EIEIO It teaches them about the animals that are
common in Africa as well as shows some of the cultural aspects of Africa in the
illustrations.
