Lesson idea implementation: Students will explore key events and people in the civil rights movement. The
students will already have an idea of what happened during the civil rights movement, and the people that
influenced it. The teacher will introduce how significant people affect certain events over a period of time.
The teacher will then model how using the timeline can organize events and dates in chronological order. This

lesson is mostly going to be student based, and the teacher is only going to display the model she made using
the timeline software. It is up to the students to research a person that influenced the civil rights movement.
Students are creating a timeline, but there is an extent to their creativity and because of this it will take about
a week to finish. Within this week students will take time to gather and explore information about their
historic figure. In addition, the teacher will provide feedback for her students throughout the whole process.
The teacher will assess the students based on their ability to put major events in chronological order.
Students who are struggling with words have a choice to use pictures to describe the event. I would like to
end and extend the project by having the students publish their work on an online publishing site. The online
publishing site will keep students identity anonymous, and the teacher will seek permission before posting
anything on the internet.
