Hudson describes a current issue at Campbell University, where a former law professor is

facing discrimination. To elaborate, Amos Jones has argued that there is a pattern of white

assistant professors are being paid more than the black ones of the school. To support this

argument, Jones cited how white associate professors are given promotions with no need for

application. Meanwhile, Jones had to turn in a 400-page file as well as wait 13 months for a

response from the school board. Also, the Dean of the school required Jones to work on

admissions while Jones was on unpaid leave with no paid benefits. However, Jones was not paid

for the services granted as opposed to the white associate professors who did the exact same job.

As a result, Jones filed several civil rights charges. Hudsons article provides an excellent source

of how racial bias in the media spreads to bias in other fields of society.

Coming from the website itself, Opposing Viewpoints Online summarizes what media

bias is and the different news outlets that do so. For instance, Fox News is often guilty of rooting

its bias in party politics while others are watched by media watchdog groups such as Accuracy in

Media and Media Matters for America. Also, the article explains that biases do not need to be

direct and obvious to be present in media and that editorial decisions impact whether or not

coverage of an issue is biased. However, most of media bias stems from political beliefs such as

how the political right argues that liberal bias stems from the unfair treatment of conservatives

by the press. On the other side of the spectrum, the political left argues that two separate biases

exist. Radical liberals argue that some news outlets serve as deliverers of propaganda for big

business and government whereas more moderate liberals turn to the content of conservative

news outlets. Overall, the article can be used to provide an in-depth analysis of the existence of

media bias and the different types.
