Kasie Johnstons Signature Assignment

Introduction-
The topic I am investigating is the type of athletic shoe owned, the number of days spent exercising and the
number of minutes per day spend exercising for women who are currently serving or have served in the Marine
Corps. I selected a random sample of 35 from a size of 12,000. I posted a survey on a Female Marines Facebook
group I am a member of, 35 out of 12,000 women responded. This survey could be biased as I have only asked
female who were in the military instead of a group that includes all people. I could have taken a better survey by
asking people who all do not share the same background.

Conclusion
There was an easily recognizable mode when it came to the athletic shoe, Nike was the most
common brand, which I expected. The mean and median of the minutes spent exercising are
51.43 minutes and 45 minutes. There were 2 outliers, the 120 minutes spent working out were
the outliers. I was not surprised with this because some women could be body builders or
fitness coaches, or their command unit requires them to exercise that much. My graph is
slightly skewed right. I found it interesting that there werent many women who spent more
than 60 minutes working out per session.
I believe that the explanatory variable was the days spent working out, and the response
variable was the number of minutes spent per day. There was a positive linear correlation for
my survey. I expected it to be so. My least squares regression line is y=9.5x+12.07. The slope
indicates that as the number of days increase, the time spent in exercising increases by 9.5
minutes. There is no need to interpret the y intercept. I found it interesting that the women
who selected 5 days worked out anywhere from 20 to 120 minutes per day. If I had the chance
to do this project over again, I would do the survey for college students in their freshman year
to see if they continued working out after high school.
