Reflection of Poetry Analysis Essay

This reflection was on my poetry analysis essay on Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred

Owen. According to Professor Batty, my thesis was strong so I did not have to change anything

major. Although my thesis was strong, I was missing a point in the thesis which was a supporting

point in my paragraphs. My thesis mentioned the use of imagery, in the paragraph I mentioned

Irony and Imagery but did not input that into my thesis. My first body paragraph was a little too

quick after the thesis so I had to include a sentence to make the transition to the body paragraph

easier. In one of my supporting points, I used a quote twice without realizing it. I decided to

follow Professor Battys advice of just combining the two paragraphs together instead of just

having them as two separate supporting points. My sentences were effective but they were not as

clear. Specifically this line Owen, trapped in his dream unable to do anything, constantly suffers

the horrible memory. I wanted it to be more clear for the reader so I added a sentence after it to

support the first one. I had a few grammatical errors in my sentences which were not too

distracting but it was mostly with commas and combining sentences including colons. My

conclusion was a little weak so I had to make it stronger by portraying the overall message of the

poem itself.
