Authors are kindly requested to submit an extended abstract related to one of the proposed symposium
topics to participate in the symposium. The abstracts should be written in English. It should include a
brief introduction, objectives, main results and concluding remarks obtained in the study. Previously
published results will not be accepted. The abstracts should be saved in MS Word templates directory
and send to smre@eng.hokudai.ac.jp.
Please use this document as a template. Use Times New Roman (Font size 11) for the body of the abstract.
Paper size is 210 mm297mm or A4 paper. Top margin is 30mm while the left, right, and bottom
margins are 25 mm. The page limit of this extended abstract is 1 page. The body of the abstract should
be justified. Single line spacing is needed. If the length of the extended abstract exceeds the maximum
limit or if it is NOT according to this Template it will NOT be accepted.
Useful figures related to the study should be placed below the body of the abstract. Figure numbers and
labels should be placed under the figure and centered. Use the abbreviation Fig. 1 except in the
beginning of a sentence: (e.g., Figure 1 is ...). Any equations should be in a neat and consistent style.
They should be displayed at the left, and equation numbers should be inside a parenthesis at the right.
Use the abbreviation Eq. (1) not equation (1), except in the beginning of a sentence (e.g., Equation
(1) is ...).

In the text, cite references in square brackets [1]. Multiple references [2], [3] are each numbered with
separate brackets [1][3]. In sentences, refer simply to the reference number, as in [3].
