Monsters

It seems that appearance frightens human beings but what really should frighten us as

human are actions not appearance. In Dead Until Dark, by Charlaine Harris theres a twist of

plot in Bon Temp, Louisiana were a human named Sookie Stackhouse and a vampire Bill

Compton created a love romance and numerous of unknow murders. Throughout the novel

everyone suspense who the real monster vampire or humans. A monster is an imaginary creature

that is typically large, ugly, and frightening. In other terms a monster represents the

consciousness or cracks in the ego-ideal and it can represent a warning like Rene Lenier being a

serial killer whose victims were fangbangers.

Sookie is a telepath and one the main character who lives with her grandmother Adele

Stackhouse and has an older brother Jason. Sookie falls in love with a vampire, a Civil War

veteran named Bill Compton. Since the first day she met Bill she knew he was an unique and

amazing vampire who she save him from the Rattrays, who are vampire drainers. Bill returns the

favor the next day when the Rattrays attack Sookie. Eventually Bill Sookie create some sort of

relationship Sooie stars getting involved with the vampires.

There are several murders in Bon Temps, and people believe that Bill is behind the

murders because many of the bodies have fang marks. However the Bon Temps police suspect

Sookies brother Jason and arrest him because he had sex with the victims. Sookie wants to help

her brother and asks Bill to take her to a vampire bar called Fangtasia. Fangtasia is owned by
Fuentes 2

Eric Northman, a vampire sheriff who is much older and more powerful than Bill. Eric thought

Sookie could be use to find who then sealing from his bar and eventually sookie found out. Since

she was in danger, Eric asks Bubba a dim-witted vampire to protect Sookie while he is gone. But

when Bill was gone, she discovers that the murderer is her brothers friend Rene Lenier. Rene

almost kills her, she fights back and only get injured. Sookie wakes up in the hospital and finds

Bill by her side and eventually Rene arrested. In the end of the novel Sookie is alone and Bill tell

her everything can go back into normal but sookie knows nothing would be the same anymore.

Sex is the most important factor in this novel because women are being murdered due to

the relationships that humans had with vampires. Rene is a human being who was a part of road

crew and got engaged to killed women because they were having sex with vampires. His first

victim was his sister named Cindy because she was dating a vampire who she allowed him to

bite and drink her blood. Rene wasnt aware of the type relationship they had but once he

discovered, he tried talking some sense to Cindy. He gets furious, kills his sister, and starts

targeting every women that reminds him of his sister. Jason is a suspect in the murders because

he has had sex with all the victims. But Jason is promiscuous and his sister has warned him that

his lifestyle will get him in trouble. Jason had nothing to do with the murders, he just enjoys

having sex a lot and never image it could effect him in any way.

It is not only sexuality that challenges our psychic development and balance but

aggression and its expression can be just as challenging or demanding. Sex is has a different

perspective for womens and mens for many reason different reasons. The quality of one's life

and creates anxiety, or a lack in the sex drives of partners, evolving into a matter of unresolved

contention in the relationship. Loss of sexual desire can both result from relationship problems

and cause them. However this isnt necessary a disorder but just a diagnosable condition that
Fuentes 3

just creates a huge impact on a person. Some people have low and some high sex drive, its

different for everyone. Mens are more biologically than women, and desire is tie tightly to

physiologic arousal. Among women, sexual desire is typically more psychological and

situational, influenced by how they feels and emotions about their bodies and the type of

relationships they had toward their partner.

Freud created a theory of personality development that centered on the effects of the

sexual pleasure drive on the individual psyche. He claimed a single body part is particularly

sensitive to sexual. These erogenous zones are the mouth, the anus, and the genital region.

However, the child's libido centers on behavior affecting the erogenous zone of his ag but he can

not focus on the erogenous zone of the next stage without resolving the developmental conflict

of the immediate one. It had shown that a child at in a early stage has certain needs and demands

but sometimes thing go wrong. Thats when frustration and the act of having too much of

something occurs and creates an obsession. Freud came into conclusion that if a child goes

through too many phases at once it will cause a huge affect on his or her personality adult life.

This is because each phase will resolve each conflict and will move on but eventually the libido

invest each stage over again.

Jason and Cindy both seem to have sex issue, they both same desire sex but they

performed in different ways. Jason seem to enjoy sex and wants more and Cindy sets her

standards low. As a result, it had shown that sibling shape our close relationships and affect our

adult life. Siblings resolve a range of issues, from the lack of interest from the emotions in a

many ways. Growing up with siblings everyone somehow manages to get along and work

together even in tough times. At the end day everyone has their siblings or a close cousin or

family who they consider a sibling and they process a unbreakable relationships. Tthey start to
Fuentes 4

establish patterns that emphasize either cooperation or hostility. Avoidance allows a cooling-off

period between an angry phase with siblings creates some sort of confusion and confronting

issues and they grow apart. Since Cindy was Rene first victim and his sister, they seem to had be

victims dysfunctional family conflict.

Then pain of early loss or later trauma is a threat to mental growth as affect us. Killers

often report experiencing symptoms with post-traumatic stress disorder that contains flashbacks,

hallucinations, nightmares, and whats known as moral injury. Rene become unemotional and

cold after Cindy, he believe that human shouldnt let vampires voluntarily let them suck their

blood especially for sex desire. Serial killers involves multiple incidents of homicide that

committed in separate events and crime scenes where each murder they experiences their

emotional cooling off more and more. Rene seemed to have flashback of Cindy because he only

killed women who had sex with vampire because it reminded him of her.

Racism seen to play a huge role through the novel. Vampires are struggling for equal

rights similarly to Martin Luther King when we was fighting for whites and blacks for sharing

equal right. However in this novel its mythical creatures and human fight for equal right. The

citizens of Bon Temps are vampires problems since the vampire decided to come out from light

light two year ago and several of murders started to occur. As a result all the victims have a sort

of relationship with vampires and Sookie becomes worries about her life. Humans fighting to for

their live and doing the many possible to find out who the was murder. The novel had a twist of

plot the monster was a human not a vampire.

Sookie see symptoms of anxiety through when going to the vampire bar. For example,

There was enough tension in the room to send a fleet of the nervous running for their

tranquilizers, shows that Sookie felt a weird vibe. A panic, fear, and uneasiness vibe that are
Fuentes 5

some general symptoms of anxiety.Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress but can be useful in

some situations. It can alert us to dangers and help us prepare and pay attention. As a result,

anxiety did alert and she got to save herself for maybe danger. It shown in previous researchers

tha the causes of anxiety disorders are currently unknown but likely involve a combination of

factors including genetic, environmental, psychological and developmental. It's not always the

same for everyone, its usually different for everyone but everyone at some point in their life

feels anxious from now and then.

As humans we believe monsters have the uglies appearance but its isnt necessary true.

Monsters can come in different form and shapes. Humans are usually scared of the unknown

because human believe they should know everything. Its necessary not true human shouldnt

know everything for a reason. We seem to be scared of the unknown because we arent familiar

with it and we believe that fear is what we dont know. Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by

someone or something that is dangerous feeling like a threat or causing pain. We create our own

image of fear and start judging. For example, our memories created as a child stay with us,

creating about scary creatures, it could from a show, movie or from anywhere and crating our

from ugly monster with the most weirdest and unique appearance. But as result a monster is an

inhumanly cruel or wicked person nothing to do with appearance and for sake of human we

always seem to judge people and things from appearance.

In the novel Dead Until DarK, the monster was a Rene a human being or his action, not

vampires even though theyre known for blood sucker. Monster was cruel person not necessarily

ugly creature.Siblings relationships have a gauge impact into the adult life and how we create our

relationships with others. Sookie throughout the novel was risking her life to discover the truth

murder. Sex and racism both play a high role in novel revealing the real murder.
