Lesson idea implementation:
Objective:
Students will use technology to explore the different types of devices used in poetry. Students will prove their
knowledge by completing the activities on BrainPOP.
Procedure:
Before the exploration portion of the lesson begins, the instructor will quiz the students about what they
know about the different structures of poetry, including defining terms such as, Stanza, Rhyme Scheme,
Alliteration, Hyperbole, Onomatopoeia. After the small quiz, instructor will introduce the objective of the

lesson. Instructor will split the students into groups of 2 or 3, and allow them to explore the BrainPOP website
to find out more information about poetry and the devices used in it.

Instructor will act as facilitator during this activity, allowing the students to explore within the confines of the
topic on BrainPOP.
This lesson could be used as an introduction to a poetry unit.
