SGP Team,
Siemens

Sub: Reg Application to SGP program

Dear SGP Team,

I am excited at the prospect of joining the Siemens SGP team. I believe my academic achievements and professional experience
make me a suitable candidate for this program. I would like to highlight some aspects of my experience that are relevant to this
job position.
Leadership Experience: I am currently the President of the Manufacturing and Operations club at ISB, a student-elected
representative to further the career and academic interests of the student body in this domain. Within a span of five months my
core team and I organized speaker sessions and facility planning simulation events, and created career competency maps
providing visiting company information. While creating a pitch book, I realized the need to expand the recruitment pool which
resulted in multiple new leads for the current year. We have also initiated a Six-Sigma Green Belt certification program for all
club members.
My leadership skills have been honed over the years thanks to the opportunities that I had at Caterpillar prior to joining ISB.
My first assignment was to lead a cost reduction program in the Power systems division by localization of Engine components
and systems. The main challenges that I overcame in this project were identifying cost-reduction opportunities, personally
scoping and selecting suppliers across Asia Pacific region and finally getting a buy-in from departments such as Supply
Chain, Purchasing, Operations and Product Group.
I then moved to the Operations Engineering team, where I led a team of Four Graduate Engineers to develop a new service
offering for the Organization - Supply Chain Planning. My responsibilities included developing a new team with expertise in
supply chain, streamlining processes, developing a marketing argument to win client contracts. I was also deputed to manage a
team of 20 experienced engineers for a period of two months when my supervisor had to go for an overseas assignment.
Process Oriented approach: I believe that my process oriented approach to tasks and my ability to work with diverse people
led to my leadership opportunities. Right from UT Austin, where I worked as a Research Assistant along with a group of
researchers from USA, China and Korea, I have been trained to get to the root cause of any problem before thinking about
solutions. This was further refined when I was exposed to Six Sigma in Caterpillar. I was a Six Sigma DMAIC Green Belt
trained professional and I worked as the Lead Green Belt in two projects that helped achieve significant efficiency
improvements in the team.
Operations Engineering: My final position at Caterpillar was that of an Internal Lean Engineering consultant. In this
capacity, I executed Value stream Transformation projects in Operations at Client facilities in the US and increased the capacity
by 33%. I also developed a new process to perform lean analysis of manufacturing and assembly from off-shore locations -
Video Lean Analysis. Through this process, CAT India was able to generate up to five new clients and projects till March
2014.
I take great pride in my ability to work in diverse teams across cultures, to learn a new task or process in a short time and to
solve challenging problems. I believe these attributes make me a strong candidate for the SGP program at Siemens. I request
you to consider my application for the same.
Thanking You,
