Exam subjects for the 1st semester

Unit 1: Arrivals
1. What are the different kinds of greetings you can use when you meet people from other
cultures? In what context would you use them and with whom?
2. What documents do you need to rent a car? What special types of insurance do you need and
what do they cover?
3. Write an arrival information sheet for your city or region. Include sections on: 1) general
information, 2) airport/railway station to city or town centre, 3) intercity buses/ trams/ trolleys,
4) car hire, 5) other information. (120-150 words)

Unit 2: A place to stay


1. What are hotel facilities? List the most important 3 types and give at least 5 examples for
each.
2. What are hotel services? Name at least 5 and explain in what do they consist.
3. In finding jobs, what do qualities, skills and duties refer to? Give 2 examples for each.
4. What jobs could you have in a hotel/restaurant? Give details about 3 of them (qualities and
skills needed; duties).
5. What do guests look for in a hotel? What elements are important for them when choosing
one?
6. Imagine you are a hotel receptionist - give some rules that you should obey for welcoming
guests.
7. What steps do you have to follow for the check-in procedure in the Front Office?
8. Write an (imaginary) application letter for a job ad for the position of Head Receptionist.
(you will see the precise job details at the exam).

Unit 3: Tourist information services


1.Write a tourist information advice and recommendation sheet for your own area. You
should include 4 of the following sections: 1) A general description, 2) Information on natural
features, 3) Places to visit, 4) Nightlife and entertainment, 5) Shopping, 6) Accommodation.

2. Name the different sources a tourist can find information from about a new destination.

Unit 4: Holiday rep
1. What types of qualities and skills do you need to become a holiday rep? What will be your
duties?
2. What different types of reps do you know? What duties do they have?
3. What are the stages of welcome meetings that holiday reps have with tourists on the day of
their arrival? What happens at each stage?
4. What is the relation between the primary companies in tourism, travel agencies, tour
operators and tourists?
5. What advice about giving tips would you give to tourists visiting Romania and the other
European countries?
