This publicaton should be used as a guideline to remainunbiased when w
document for public viewing. Once the frst draf has been complete
concepts when editng and reviewing the work before fnal publicaton.

2. Provide evidence
3. Be sensitve
4. Remain objectve
5. Use genderneutralnouns and pronouns

Objectvity
When writng about an individual, conditon or group of people, avoid sweeping
generalizatons. Be as specifc as possible by providing as m
accurate and concise in a publicaton. Use objectve language by
or adverbs that exaggerate a point of view from fltering into the w
following things when writng;
1. Be specifc, not general
2. Avoid frst/second person points of view
3. Evaluate the credibility of sources
4. Avoid personal emoton input

Diversity
When writng about a group of people based on ethnicity, gender, age, and/or re
consider the following questons to make sure your publicaton is represen
1. What are the source materials?
2. Are groups being represented equallyand fairly?
3. Is the topic being reported from all viewpoints?

Terminology
Regarding the use of proper terminology in a publicaton, use inclusive te
describing a person(s). Avoid using adjectves such as collectve nouns an
using genderttles. Use last name only when making reference to a pe
doing or something that they have produced. The only excepton is w
in a formal response. Doing this will avoid any confusion by m
some cases, provide as much informaton when describing an individual, be as
possible about the person, person(s), and/or conditon.

When referring to academic sources, identfy the individual by frst an


referencing in text, use their last name.
