Teen Depression: Causes,Symptoms, and Treatment. Newport Academy. January 7 2017.

depression-causes-symptoms-and-treatment/

In this article, Newport Academy explored an important question of our time: What are

the Causes of Depression? After a brief review on the National Institute of Mental Health,

Newport examines a variety of reasons of how depression may be triggered on todays teenagers.

This involves the academic/athletic performance, family issues, lack of maturity, and the fear of

social judgement upon their daily life. Newport explains how the worry of leaving the nest and

finding their identity can lead to the fear of being different from society. This additional stress is

put on the tasks of completing assignments, doing well in their sports, and possibly setting an

example for their younger siblings. Newport provides an excellent overview of primary source

associated with the causes of depression; it will help with the background research on the causes

of depression, the signs of depression, and its treatment. I am familiar with this emotional/mental

sickness and wish to know what may happen to me.

need-to-know/index.shtml#pub8

In this article, The National Institute of Mental Health(NIMH) explores how teenagers

specifically are more vulnerable to experience depression than others in society. After a review

of their own research, the NIMH examines the types of depression along with the variety of those

affected by it. They reveal the reasons why depression affects not only teens but men, women,

children, and elderly. The National Institute of Mental Health explains how depression can affect

people depending on how the symptoms cause them to act. Several of these symptoms involve

sadness, hopelessness, guilt, restlessness, difficulty concentrating and sleeping, dark thoughts,

and lost of interest. This article provides a impressive overview for the variety on depression

symptoms, types of depression, and the treatments/medications for depression; this will certainly

be very important in supporting my background research on why teens are more common for

depression since many are likely to feel this on a massive scale. It will certainly help if one needs

to recommend/take treatment or medication for depression.

November 2017 https://www.livestrong.com/article/73224-effects-serotonin-

norepinephrine-depression/

In this article, Butler explored on the possible effects depression may have on teenagers. After a

review on her research from several mental health sites, she has examined the potential effects

depression can have on the teenagers in todays society. This includes several daily objectives

such as behaving, eating, and possibly school work. Butler reveals the side effects on

experiencing depression which can become part of the teenagers character if the impact is that

major. Some of the effects may involve school performance, substance abuse, eating disorders,

worthlessness, internet addiction, behavior/decision changes like running away, self-harm,

violence, and potentially suicide. The article provides an excellent overview as a secondary

source for her sources on the effects of depression; it will surely assist in the background research

of the project due to the information from other health sites along with the precise description of

the effects. I may want to keep these effects in mind as I am experiencing the rest of my

highschool year.

Dryden-Edwards,Roxanne. Teen Depression. Medicine.net. Web. 27 November 2017.

een_depression

In this article, Dryden-Edwards explores the possible methods available to overcome depression.

After a review of the list of treatments, she has discovered a major variety of options of what may

help with depression; specifically therapy, medications, and possible help. She explains the types

of teen depression; along with its symptoms that can affect the receiver in sometimes dangerous

outcomes. Ultimately, treatment in the form of therapy and medicine: herbal or not; has proven

effective in helping teenagers overcome depression as a result. The article provides an incredible

overview as a primary source for the several therapies and list of medications available; it will

prove very useful as a part of my background research on the ability to potentially and hopefully

overcome depression for the teens in todays society. I may want to keep this as a potential list of

suggestions to use if I or someone I know experiences depression in the future.

2016. Web. 1 December 2017. http://hannahheath-writer.blogspot.com/2016/10/how-to-

write-characters-with-depression.html

In these articles, Heath and Fork-Williams explore the method of how to put a depressed persons

character into the storys plot and protagonist. After a review of their blogs, Fork-Williams puts

his focus on the stories of a depressed person and helps them start fresh from depression while

Heath examines the errors in the storys plot and main character of a depression story by reading,

writing, and giving advice on the stories. Fork-Williams examines the bloggers condition during

depression and helps them get rid of it while restarting their lives fresh while Heath reads and

makes stories focused on depression while offering helpful advice on making a story for others to

use. These blogs explain what the person will likely become and what may be necessary to

overcome depression in their stories; whether someone wrote them or not. Both the articles

research combined provide an outstanding source on creating a book since not only does Heaths

article explain what writers do wrong in making the stories, but Fork-Williams possesses

information on the persons thought process as they experience depression. Ill need to create a

story of depression which needs a plot that follows the characters thought process and their

journey.
