Safety Precaution

There are many modern machines that we use to complete the project. So the machines have
safety precautions that we must know. Such as :

1. Band Saw Machine:

Wear safety glasses or goggles, or a face shield (with safety glasses or goggles).
Wear hearing protection that is suitable for the level and frequency of the noise you
are exposed to in the woodworking area.
Wear protective footwear when required.
Make sure all guards are in place and properly adjusted. Ensure all band wheels are
enclosed.
Adjust blade guard height to about 3 mm or 1/8 inch above the top of the material
being cut.
Ensure the blade is tracking correctly and runs freely in and against the upper and
lower guide rollers.
Ensure the blade is under proper tension. A band saw equipped with automatic
tension control is desirable.
Use band saw blades that are sharp, properly set and otherwise suitable for the job
(e.g., the right tooth pitch; tooth form; blade width).
Hold stock firmly and flat on the table to prevent the stock from turning and drawing
your fingers against the blade. Keep hands braced against the table.

2. Conventional Milling Machine:

Ensure no slip/trip hazards are present in workspaces and walkways.
Locate and ensure you are familiar with the operation of the ON/OFF starter and E-
Stop (if fitted).
Do not leave equipment on top of the machine.
Check that machine guards are in position.
Ensure cutter is in good condition and securely mounted.
Check coolant delivery system to allow for sufficient flow of coolant.
Faulty equipment must not be used. Immediately report suspect machinery.
3. Drilling Machine:
Read and become familiar with machines operating procedures before operating
Always know where the power off switch is located in case of emergency
Always turn switch to off position when not operating drill press
Always disconnect the machine from the power source before servicing, repairing,
making any adjustments, or changing accessories, such as blades, bits, cutters, etc.
Wear safety glasses at all times while operating drill press to protect eyes from any
dust or debris
Wear a dust or face mask to prevent the inhalation of dust from operating the machine
Do not wear gloves, necktie, jewelry, or loose clothing, as they could get caught in
the rotating elements of the machine
Tie up long hair or wear protective hair covering to prevent hair from getting caught
in the rotating elements of the machine
Always clamp workpiece or brace against column to prevent rotation. Never drill
loose work. Never secure the workpiece with hands.
Always use drill chuck guards in appropriate position when operating drill press
Always use recommended speed and specifications for drill bits, accessories, and
workpiece material.
If visibility is low, turn light switch on.

4. EDM Wire Cut Machine:

.Make sure there are no leaks in the tank dielectric liquid tank hose and pipe
connections.
Make sure a fire extinguisher near the machine for use in emergencies.
Make sure the materials are installed in areas where the right job.
Make sure the electrodes are not touching the thing work.
Make sure the cutting wire is not touching things work.
Make sure each cable there is no leakage.
Clear oily liquid that is in place the working substance during the installation
process.
Clean all dirt in the tank desk and storage tanks.
Wear appropriate clothing while using machines.
5. CNC Milling Machine:
Make sure that the shop environment conforms to the specified temperature
requirements for safe operation or storage of the unit.
Only authorized, trained personnel should work on a CNC machine. People without
proper training present a hazard to themselves, the machine, and the shop.
Inspect the machine before use by looking for damaged parts and tools. Any part of
the machine that is damaged or not working properly should be repaired or replaced
by trained personnel or those authorized by the dealership or manufacturer to do so.
Wear appropriate safety glasses and ear protection while operating the machine. This
will reduce the risk of injuries to your eyes or hearing loss since the machine can
operate in excess of 70 db. Noise levels in excess of 90 dB can cause hearing loss
after prolonged exposure, according to the CDC.
Never operate the machine unless the doors are closed and the interlocks are working.
When in operation, the mill table and tool heads can move rapidly along their axes
and change direction abruptly.
Only qualified electricians should have access to the electrical panel. At no time
should the electrical panel be open or unlatched. Never service the machine while the
power is connected.
Equipment should never be modified or altered in any way, unless it is being done by
the manufacturers or dealerships authorized personnel.
No one should enter the machine enclosure while the machine is running. The door
should be closed and the guards in place.
When loading or unloading a tool, the machinist should enter the machining area,
open the door, complete the change, close the door, and exit the area completely
before powering up and restarting the machine.
A machine should never be run when there is only one person in the shop.
Everyone in the shop should be familiar with how to stop the machine in the case of
an emergency.
Implementing a safety contract for all personnel to read and sign as understood will
not eliminate all liability, but it will bring home the seriousness of practicing safety
on the shop floor.
Make sure that the piece to be worked is properly clamped and secured within the
machine. Considering the speed and force with which CNC mills operate, improper
clamping can lead to serious accidents and injuries.
If you are running a new piece on the machine, run it at a slower speed in order to
make sure that the tool heads and the work piece are properly positioned.
6. EDM Die Sinking Machine:
Make sure there are no leaks in the tank dielectric liquid tank hose and pipe
connections.
Make sure a fire extinguisher near the machine for use in emergencies.
Make sure the materials are installed in areas where the right job.
Make sure the electrodes are not touching the thing work.
Make sure the cutting wire is not touching things work.
Make sure each cable there is no leakage.
Clear oily liquid that is in place the working substance during the installation process.
Clean all dirt in the tank desk and storage tanks.
Wear appropriate clothing while using machines.
Conclusion

After we do this project, we have learn how to conduct the modern machines like conventional
milling machine, band saw machine, drilling press machine, CNC milling machine, EDM wire
cut machine and EDM die sinking machine. Then, we know how to make the coding to use CNC
and EDM machines. Although, we are able to gain more experiences by doing this project.

By doing this project, we have learn to conduct the modern machines so we also know
the standard operations procedure and safety precautions of the machines. The SOP is very
important before we conduct the machines because it will prevent us from the accidents or
hazards. The safety precautions have before, in operation and after operations. We must follow
them to prevent the machine are damaged. Besides that, we also must read and follow the
drawing before we conduct the machines. Then, teamwork are very important to do every
experiments or projects, it is because it will reduce our timing to complete the project.

We can conclude that, the knowledge about modern machine are very important to the
students before they continue their industrial training.
Recommendation

Based on the studies through observation, there are some flaws in our project. However, that
doesnt mean our product was unsuccessful. It just need a longer period of time to produce mold
completely. We admit that the time allocated for us just one semester which is 14 weeks is not
enough for us to finish the project. In addition, the quantity of CNC Milling Machine, Surface
Grinding Machine and EDM Wire Cut Machine is not enough for all groups to use in the same
time during classes. This will make us to take turn on using each machine thus the time taken
increases. During designing the design, we also find the slightly problems while using the
Mastercam software. We as the students need to learn and master the function, command and
tools before using it. The extra classes to master the Mastercam would suffice in designing our
project.
