Tormach CNC Scanner™ is a dimen- quality assurance, to name a

sionally accurate 2D scanner for use
with your PCNC or other Mach 3
power CNC mill or router. It includes
Tormach ScanCAD™, an integrated
analysis software for precision mea-
surement and reverse engineering.
The Tormach CNC Scanner turns
your PCNC into a high resolution
2D optical scanner and reverse
engineering system. This is a unique
tool has hundreds of uses, including
toolmaking, artistry, repair and resto-
ration, precision measurement, and
few.
CNC Scanner expands the
reach of your PCNC by
enabling measuring and
manufacturing on a single
platform. Its now easy to
make difficult measure-
ments with precision right
on your computer screen.
How does it work?
CNC Scanner utilizes a
Mach3 plugin to take a series

of photographs where the cam-

era is automatically positioned for
each photograph with CNC motion.
A dimensionally scaled photomosaic
is automatically assembled by stitch-
ing photographs together to build
a larger image. Scale is accurately
determined by specifying a known
distance (i.e., placing a scale in the
field of view), or, even more accu-
rately, by automatically calibrating to
the precise motion of the machine
itself. Whereas conventional CMM
technology requires very expensive
telecentric lenses and high resolu-
tion cameras to achieve accuracy
with large image files, CNC Scanner
achieves accuracy with an affordable
camera by using the accuracy of your
machine and assembling the image
out of smaller images.

After the photomosaic is assembled, it can be opened in Step 1: Scanned Photomosaic Image
Tormach CNC Scan CAD™, a simple 2D CAD program
drafting with AutoCad-Style commands for measuring
distances and tracing shapes. These files can be export-
ed as a CAD file (.DXF) for further work in another CAD
program or imported into CAM to create a program for
cutting the part on your PCNC.

CNC Scanner uses a spindle mounted adjustable focus

USB microscope camera that features our Tormach
Tooling System® quick change mounting system. It is
also compatible with any CNC mill that utilizes Mach 3
control software. Requires a spindle that is capable of
holding ¾” shank, such as R8 or MT-3.

Tormach CNC Scanner lets you scan parts and

recreate CAD drawings, as was done with this
motorcycle engine case.

essary to integrate with a PCNC or other Mach3 controlled mill. Includes
deluxe 1.3M USB 2.0 microscope with 10-50X variable magnification and
200X discrete magnification. Durable plastic shell.

Complete CNC Scanner package contains all hardware and

software necessary to integrate with a PCNC or other Mach3
controlled mill. Includes deluxe 1.3M USB 2.0 microscope with
removable objective cap for 12-220X variable magnification. Deluxe
aluminum alloy shell.

Included Software: Tormach CNC ScanCAD (with hardware license

key dongle), and Mach3 Plug-ins for Tormach CNC Scope and CNC
Scanner Utilities

Tormach CNC Scanner (Software only)
