Admission to Ph.D. Programmes of Study 2015-16
Applications are invited from the eligible candidates for seeking admission in the following
Ph.D.Programmes of Study being started from academic session - 2015-16.

The University has rigorous full time PhD Programme that aims at honing the research skills,
grooming teaching abilities, producing quality research publications and proactive
participation in seminars and conferences. All the students admitted to PhD Programme are
awarded fellowship including contingency as per UGC norms.

1. Minimum Eligibility:

A minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade in Masters/PG degree from a recognised


University or an equivalent examination in the disciplines specified below:

 Management Commerce, Applied Economics, Business Economics, Industrial


Sociology, Psychology (Organizational / Industrial Psychology),
Marketing Management, Financial Administration , Financial
Management, Human Resource Management, International
Business, Tourism administration, Statistics, Operational Research,
Business Law, Production & Industrial Engineering, Industrial
management, Computer Applications and any other discipline
found to be relevant by the University.
 Environmental Science Postgraduate (PG) degree in any branch of Science.

 Education MEd, MA (Education), or any other discipline found to be relevant by


the University.
 English English, Comparative Literature, Translation & Interpretation,
Linguistics and any other discipline found to be relevant by the
University.
 Hindi Hindi and any other discipline found to be relevant by the University.

 Journalism & Creative Journalism, Mass Communication, New Media and any other
Writing discipline found to be relevant by the University
 Mass Communication&
Electronic Media
 Computational Biology & Bio- Master’s degree in any branch of Life Sciences/ Physics/ Chemistry/
Informatics Mathematics/ Computer Science or Information Technology

4. Reservation of Seats in Admission

a) The University shall follow reservation in admission as mandated under the Central Educational
Institutions (Reservation of Seats) Act 2006, as amended from time to time.

b) The University shall also follow reservation in admission in all Programmes of Study in
accordance with the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full
Participation) Act, 1995.

Accordingly, the University shall reserve in all Programmes of Study seats for admission as under for the
students belonging to:

i) Scheduled Caste (SC) Category 15.0%


ii) Scheduled Tribe (ST) Category 7.5%
iii) Other Backward Classes (OBC) Category 27.0%
iv) Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Category 3.0%
 Persons suffering from not less than forty per cent (40%) of any disability as
certified by a competent medical authority would be considered for admission
under PWD category.
 There will be concession facilities of fee waiver, free accommodation, food and
transport for students with disabilities.
v) Students from State of Jammu & Kashmir Two
Under Supernumerary quota Seats
vi) The Kashmiri migrant students shall have the following concessions in admission
to various programmes during academic year 2015-16:
 Relaxation in cut off percentage up to 10% subject to minimum eligibility
requirement.
 Increase in intake capacity up to 5% course-wise.
 Reservation of at least one seat in merit quota in technical/professional
institutions.
 Waiving off domicile requirements.

 Candidates seeking admission under the reserved categories shall be required to fulfil the
prescribed conditions of admission to the Programme of Study.

a) Application Form of a candidate in the reserved category must be submitted along with the
Caste/Tribe/Non-Creamy Layer certificate issued by the competent authority as per the
certificate format enclosed with the application form.
b) Application Form received without the required certificates shall be rejected.

c) If a candidate in the reserved category qualifies for admission in the general category s/he
shall be treated as a general category candidate. If sufficient number of candidates are not
available to fill up the seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes, these may be filled up by
suitable candidates from Scheduled Castes and vice-versa.

stage. However, this shall not apply to students who have taken leave for study from
their employers.

v. Admission to two full time courses is not allowed simultaneously.

vi. Candidates who have already passed M.A./M.Sc. examination from this University shall
not be eligible for admission to a parallel course in this University.
19. i. In case of Kashmiri migrant students, the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Human
Resource Development, Government of India and passed by the Syndicate of the
University in its meeting held on 20.9.2016 vide para No.32 shall be followed.
ii. As per guidelines of the U.G.C. two Supernumerary seats are available in each of the
course being run by the University for Jammu & Kashmir candidates (approved in the
Syndicate meeting held on 29.06.2015 vide para No. 38.)
iii. In case of outstanding artists, the University shall create 15 additional seats which may be
allocated to different departments on the recommendation of a committee constituted
for the purpose by the Vice Chancellor.
20. For any discrepancy or dispute, relevant ordinances as given in GNDU Calendar shall
prevail.
