I Introduction
This document contains analysis and design methodology of Civil works for the following structures
A Civil designs and Drawings for WT complexes (WT1&2 & WT3&4) & Associated Structures like
Side arm charger foundation(near W.T),Weigh bridge foundation ( Near W.T) and WT shed foundations
D Over Ground Junction Houses ( foundations only) & Trestles for Conveyor Galleries.
F Main CHP MCC buildings along with cable trenches & Pump Houses.
1 Configuration
** Wagon tippler pit is underground RCC box type structure with deep walls. The walls will be provided with Counterforts at
suitable intervals to reduce wall slenderness. Combined base raft supporting pit walls and hopper supporting and other
equipment supporting pedestals will be provided. The base raft is solid raft with uniform thickness or inverted beam-slab system
Equipment EQ As applicable i.e as per system drawings supplied by ELECON For Monorails/Hoists etc - An
Load Impact factor of 1.25 will be considered in design
Coal Load CL Unit weight of coal at 1.05 t/cum, Angle of repose = 37 deg
Earth pressure SP case 1 Dry case with unit weight of soil = 1.8 t/cum
case 2 Water table case above WT 1.8 t/m3 (Ka γ h)
below WT water pr (HP)+sub soil pr (SP)
Water table level shall be considered at graded ground level
Ka (earth pressure coefficient) Ka = Ko=0.5
It shall be considered as earth pressure at rest
Live load
surcharge
SCL 2 t/sqm (vertical surcharge) & Horizontal surcharge Pressure 2*0.5 = 1 t/sqm on pit walls
pressure
All other loads/details not mentioned shall be as per Technical Specifications ( Chapter E3 of Technical Specifications)

Case-II Hopper Paritially empty with highest level of coal / Ore at grating level and making an angle of 37deg with horizontal
Spring constants to be considered for wagon tippler area considered as per soil report
6 Design Pit walls & Rafts will be designed as cracked section with limiting crack width 0.1mm on earth/water face and 0.3mm
away from earth /water face in accordance with IS 456 by Limit State Method
slabs , floor beams, as per IS:456-2000 using Limit state method of design
walls, columns and
isolated footings,
counterforts, tiebeams
etc.,
Hopper walls The hopper walls are designed for lateral ( coal / Ore) pressure frictional forces during filling and
emptying and forces due to impact and filling of arches of coal / Iron Ore.
Stability against uplift Minimum factor of safety will be 1.2 considering only chartercristic Dead load at 0.9 times actual
value
Note If the miscellaneous foundations are resting on filled up soil , the same has to be checked for
filled up bearing pressure
The water proofing for Under ground structures is as per technical specifications of civil works

B) Under Ground Tunnels
Configuration RC tunnels are box type with or with out Cf's and beams with base raft with uniform thicknes or invert beam slab system
Earth pressure SP It shall be considered as Earth pressure at rest (Ka = Ko=0.5) and it shall be considered as following cases
case 1 Dry case with unit weight of soil = 1.8 t/cum
case 2 Water table level shall be considered at graded ground level
The Horizontal pressure = water pr (HP)+submerged soil pr(SP)
* overburden pressure shall be considered on Top slab of tunnel
Live load
surcharge
pressure SCL 2 t/sqm (vertical surcharge) & Horizontal surcharge Pressure 2*0.5 = 1 t/sqm on pit walls
or Dispersion loads (arising out of railway load) through soil will be considered as 2 vert : 1 horz
Being an underground structure, seismic loads are not Considered in the Analysis and design
Being an underground structure Wind loads are not Considered in the Analysis and design
Railway Surcharge Load from movement of Railway wagon shall be considered for the Design of Tunnel
Wagon Load & Wagon tippler walls.
Standard Axel Load of 21.5 MT/Axel shall be considered.
For Location of Track Refer Layout Drawings. (RTL - 227.64)
