1.1 INTRODUCTION

Established and Founded by Mr. V.A.Subramaniam in the year 1975. With the professional
capabilities the unit functions with imported modern machinery. The various operations’
undergoes stringent monitoring and retains excellence in reputation quality and service. The
commitment and quality makes a good reputation which had made instrumental by
Mr.Sivakumar with experience of more than two decades who procures leadership and provides
excellence in standardized quality with viable price.

Currently two comprehensive functioning units with modern imported machinery using the
latest methodology for the quality output. Enhanced efficiency delivered with constant research
and development. Today stands to be the leading players with the trust quality and service.

3.1 PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT

Production is the process by which goods and services are created. It is the conversion of
raw materials into finished products and the services by using different processes, machines,
men, tools, etc...

Definition

Production and operations management (“POM”) is about the transformation of production


and operational inputs into “outputs” that, when distributed, meet the needs of customers.
DESCRIPTION OF FLOW OF MATERIALS AND PROCESSES

1 – Paddy is dumped in the intake pit which feeds the pre-cleaner

A – Straw, chaff and empty grains are removed

2 – Pre-cleaned paddy moves to the rubber roll husker:

B – Husk removed by the aspirator

3 – Mixture of brown rice and unhusked paddy moves to the separator

4 – Unhusked paddy is separated and returned to the rubber roll husker

5 – Brown rice moves to the destoner

C – Small stones, mud balls etc. removed by de-stoner

6 – De-stoned, brown rice moves to the 1st stage (abrasive) whitener

7 – Partially milled rice moves to the 2nd stage (friction) whitener

D – Coarse (from 1st whitener) and fine (from 2nd whitener) bran removed from the rice grain
during the whitening process

8 – Milled rice moves to the sifter

E – Small brokens/brewer’s rice removed by the sifter

9a – (for simple rice mill) ungraded, milled rice moves to bagging station

9b – (for more sophisticated mill) milled rice moves to the polisher1

10 – Polished rice, will move to length grader

11 – Head rice moves to head rice bin


12 – Brokens moves to brokens bin

13 – Pre-selected amount of head rice and brokens move to blending station

14 – Custom-made blend of head rice and brokens moves to bagging station

15 – Bagged Rice moves to the market


STAGE FUNCTION

Pre-cleaning removing all impurities and unfilled grains from the paddy

Husking removing the husk from the paddy

Husk aspiration separating the husk from the brown rice/unhusked paddy

Paddy separation separating the unhusked paddy from the brown rice

De-stoning separating small stones from the brown rice

Whitening removing all or part of the bran layer and germ from the brown rice

Polishing improving the appearance of milled rice by removing remaining ran particles and
by polishing the exterior of the milled kernel

Sifting separating small impurities or chips from the milled rice

Length grading separating small and large brokens from the head rice

Blending mix head rice with predetermined amount of brokens, as required by the
customer

Weighing and preparing milled rice for transport to the customer

SILO PLANT

They have installed international standard SILO 6000 Tons capacity to store the paddy and
maintain the quality rice production to fulfill the global requirement.

PADDY PRE CLEANING

They have Five Paddy pre Cleaning Machines. For an hour, each machine can separate
10 tons of grains in terms of their quality.
SOAKING PROCESS

We have fifty large tanks with a capacity of 5 tons. With the effort of 30 employees the
grains are soaked meticulously and then dried thoroughly.
Each tank is of the following dimension to ascertain the quality of the process:
4 feet Depth
10 feet Length

BOILER

After 10 percent moisture is reduced the grains are put into the boiler. The boiler is heated
using steam and the grains are made to reduce the moisture. After 10 minutes of boiling, the
grains are spread out in a dry place.
Two mega boilers are equipped each with a capacity of 12 tons.
DRYING PROCESS - All their Paddy are solar dried

They have allotted 3 acres of land area specifically to dry the grains. The grains are made to
dry under direct sunlight for at least three hours. Then, the moisture free grains are taken to
Paddy Dryer.

HULLING
Paddy is converted to Rice. It cleans the Paddy and Converts into Quality Rice. This infra is
used for Silky Polishing. We are having "SATAKE" make machines for this process.
PADDY DRYER

The paddy dryer removes the moisture of the paddy. We have 5 paddy dryers each of 26 tons
capacity.

COLOR SORTER

Color sorters are imported from Korea. Color sorter sorts impurities, paddy, colored-rice, and
stone from white rice

FEATURE

Advanced method of sorting - both digital and sensors.


It has a fully automatic sense function and control.
Adopted by high speed ejectors, reduction of good rice from impurities will be sorted.
Easy change modes for brown rice, sticky rice, black rice and others.
PACKING

We have Rice Packing Machines for packing of our brands. Our packing features are
mentioned below:

Cloth bags - 5 Kgs., 10 Kgs., 20 Kgs., 25 Kgs and 75 Kgs.


HDPE, LDPE bags - 25 Kgs., 50 Kgs., 75 Kgs and 100 Kgs.
LD Packing & PP bags- 1 Kg, 2 Kgs., 5 Kgs and 10 Kgs.
Gunny bags - 20 Kgs, 25 Kgs, 50 Kgs and 75 Kgs.
Carton boxes - 1Kgs, 2Kgs and 5 Kgs. Can be bulk packed in carton box.
3.2 FINANCE DEPARTMENT

The finance function deals with the procurement of money at the time when it is needed and
its utilization in the enterprise , as it is required to purchase machines and materials, to pay
wages and salaries to employees and to allow credit facilities to customers .

 Finance is the key department of any organization.


 In our present day economy, Finance is defined as the provision of money, at the time
when it required.
 Every enterprise whether big, medium or small, it needs finance to carry on that so it is
life blood of an enterprise.
 But the major decisions like investment decision are taken by managing partners of the
firm.
 The other general accounts are maintained by the accounts clerks and cashier. Tax
matters are handled by the chartered accountant of the company.

OBJECTIVES OF FINANCE DEPARTMENT

Finance is one of the basic and a core functional area of any of the business enterprise. Hence
the objectives of finance department must match up with the overall objectives of the enterprise,
so that these objectives directly contribute towards the achievement of the overall organizational
objectives.

The following are the objectives of finance department of SS modern rice mill:

 Ensure that there are adequate funds available to acquire the resources needed to help the
organization achieve its objective.
 Ensuring regular and efficient supply of capital to the business.
 Ensuring of fair rate of return on capital to the supplier.
 Ensuring better utilization of capital by following the principles of liquidity, profitability
and safety.
 Ensure costs are controlled.
 One of the major objectives of finance department is to identify appropriate financial
information prior to communicating this information to the mangers and decision makers,
in order that they would make the better judgments

FUNCTION

 Major function of finance department is exercise function and reconciliation of major


accounts.
 Costing is undertaken payroll activity consisting mainly of salary, provident fund, income
taxes.
 Supplier building
 Payment to suppliers
 Rate fixation
 General accounts such as schedules and trial balances
 Cash and bank balances

BOOKS MAINTAINED

General ledger, Purchase ledger, Main cash book, Sales registers, Petty cash books, Sundry
debtor registers, Sundry creditor registers, Wages, Allowances, Loan records etc…
3.3 MARKETING DEPARTMENT

Introduction

Marketing is indeed an ancient art and it emerges as a management discipline and it can be
further defined as an integrated communications – based process through which individuals and
communities discover that existing and newly – identified needs and wants may be satisfied by
the products and services of others.

The activities of a company associated with buying and selling a product or service includes
advertising, selling and delivering products to people. People who work in marketing
departments of companies try to get the attention of target audiences by using slogans, packaging
design, celebrity endorsements and general media exposure. The four “Ps’” of marketing are
product, price, place and promotion.

 They supply their products to schools, colleges, hotel etc…
3.4 HUMAN RESOURCE DEPARTMENT

The personnel department is comprised of manager and staff. Under this department safety
and welfare, and security departments are functioning towards its success oriented objectives.

THE MANAGEMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES AT THE INDUSTRY

Human resource management is the logical and strategic move towards the management of
industries most treasured assets such as workers or the employees, who work individually and
jointly contributing to the achievement of the aim or the objective of the business. The human
resource management widely replaced the phrase personnel management as a representation of
managing the people in the association. The human resource management always functions for
the welfare of the employees, as they are valuable resource of the organization

FUNCTIONS OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

 Man power planning: The HR manager considers the actual requirement of the staff for
the organization. Because the overstaffing is wasteful and expensive, and understaffing
leads to losses of the organization economics and profits
 Employee’s selection: selection of the employees for the suitable job is done.
 Employees’ motivation: motivates employees and encourage them to give their best in
work productivity .providing financial rewards towards staff.
 Employee relation: keeping a healthy relationship with the employees and their problems
are redressed.
 Payroll module: Payment of the salaries and wages to the workers at proper time.

THE PROCESS

The human resources management consists of several processes .The management makes
every possible decision to achieve the pre determined goals of the organization .The process
includes Recruitment, selection, placement, Induction, and development which are briefed below
;
RECRUITMENT

It is the process of searching for required human resources and stimulating them to apply
for the jobs in the organization .A proper balance should be maintained

Between the internal and external sources of recruitment. Usually the industry is following the
recruitments as well as the references by the internal workers for the external sources of
recruitment.

SELECTION

It implies judging the different candidates for the jobs in the organization and the industry
chooses the most appropriate candidates from a pool of candidates applied for the job.

PLACEMENT

It means assigning suitable jobs to be selected candidates so as to match employees’


qualifications with the job requirements likewise the company places the right candidates who
will be selected after a successful selection process.

INDUCTION

It involves familiarizing the new employee with the company, the work involvement and
existing employees so that the new people feel at home and can start work confidently.

DEVELOPMENT

Human resource development is the process of improving the knowledge, skills, aptitudes
and values of the employees so that they can perform the present and future job more efficiently.
In order to build up a smooth relationship between the employees and organizations.
THIS FUNCTION INCLUDES:

 PERFORMANCE AND POTENTIAL APPRAISAL


It implies systematic evaluation of employees with respect to their performance on the
job and their potential for the development.
 TRAINING
It is the process by which employees learn knowledge, skills and attitudes to further
organizational and personal goals.
 EXECUTIVE DEVELOPMENT
It is the process of developing management talent through appropriate programs.
CONCLUSION:

SS rice mill endeavors vast ranges of rice which are supplied to feed the world with ample
number of recipes. Efforts on efficiency are ensured with choice of perfect grain direct from
farmers which are the primary for perfect rice

Having an edge over the technology each of the rice are processed and stored without the use
of chemicals. The rice cooked seamlessly is smooth, long and aromatic.
